I bought my first Sightron last year after agonizing for months reading reviews of dozens of scopes from Bushnell elite tactical, Leupold mk4, Vortex PST, nightforce, burris etc... The things that sold me on the Sightron were
1. The "exactrac" windage and elevation adjustments (because I dial in windage and elevation instead of holding over)
2. The amazing glass clarity (many have stated it rivals or exceeds clarity of nightforce nxs glass)
3. The overall quality and value
The things is didn't like
1. The 2 moa spacing in the reticle (why didn't they make it 1 moa?)
2. The finish on the outside of the scope just looks cheap to me
3. Lack of custom options ie. reticles turrets (why bother claiming to have a custom shop when all you offer are standard options?)

Ok with that said i see that Sightron has come out with two new scopes of interest
The front focal plane model of the 6-24X50 SIIISS looks promising... Has anyone tried this scope yet to see how it compares to the sfp version?
Also the new S tac model looks like a very good midrange magnification scope. i think it is 2.5-17x56 that is a wide range of adjustment i wonder if it has any drawbacks to having such a wide power ratio? Has anyone got their hands on one? Id like to see how it performs as well

Anyone who has experience with these scopes please chime in and let the rest of us know how they stack up
Thanks
Tim

There are a number of people here who have expressed their opinions on the Sightron SIII ffp you mention. I did not just yet do a search and find them for you though, so sorry.

I bought one in September and am very happy with it. However, I am not the one you are looking for to give you an A vs. B comparison as my experience with other brands at this level is very limited. Also, I do not compete in practical or tactical matches (at least not yet). My opinion as it stands is this:

Yes, their reticle choices are still very limited, though so far I am happy with the mil-hash reticle on mine. I like the glass quite a bit, but then my budget is such that I cannot afford the higher end scopes yet...for what it's worth. I dial elevation and windage and so far am quite happy with the results. For me, the .1 mil clicks are tactile enough that I can tell what I'm doing and where I'm going. The finish seems fine to me, but that is surely an eye-of-the beholder thing I'd guess.

I suggest you give Scott at Liberty Optics a call. He's quite straight-forward in his opinions and answered every question that I had about three different possible choices with an unvarnished opinion. He sells at least three competing brands in this price range, Vortex, Bushnell, and Sightron, so I cannot imagine there is a reason he would give you a false lead on one over the other, since they all have purposes and fit differing people's needs. A call costs you just your time...and perhaps long distance charges, but can answer very specifically your questions.

Damn, I sound like a shill...but that's just my opinion showing through.

The complaints I have seen have to do with the limited reticle choices and the turret knob retention method (flathead screw in a plastic washer) being a little weak.

I got one from Scott, it's on a 20 Vartarg so it doesn't need to do a lot!
Yeah the glass is pretty damn good. I have not checked the tracking yet
(10 months into paperwork for the can!) The finish is a little crude, the a.o.
is tight, wish it was 1 moa instead of 2. Just a p.dog gun, so more is better! I have 3 S&B and a Razor, so it aint that, but so far, I'm happy.

I have and love the 6-24 ffp. I greatly prefer the 2 moa spacing. I've had numerous scopes with 1 and for me they are too busy and cluttered. I also greatly prefer the floating dot. I think this style should be be offered more in the industry.
Given Sightron is fairly new to the Tactical arena they aren't going to have a bunch of reticle to choose from. They are still testing their customer base. I wouldn't be surprised that they have someone or a team ready to listen to YOUR feedback. It may sound piddly to some but my biggest gripe is the funky Copper color the used on the turrets. If your farsighted you know what I mean. And for you that don't I would think in low light conditions this won't fare well either.
