I did 2 OCW tests with 2000MR and 178g bthp. 1 at mag length which is about 0.055" off the lands and 2.885 COAL and another at 0.020" off the lands. Good news is that there were no pressure signs even with 48.9 grains of powder with either load. Bad news is that I think my chrono is little 2 optimistic even with only 4 shots in a string. 2860fps average with 178 grain bullet with no pressure signs in a 308?? Idk about that. I think #4 looks like a good load in both tests.

MAG LENGTH 0.055" off lands COAL2.885

0.020" off the lands

What do you guys think?

48.9gr @ 2860 sounds about right if you have a 24"+ barrel. I am getting 2760 average with 48.0 gr / 175 smks, but had some slight ejector marks in the brass. I'm shooting around 2720 @ 47.5gr, which seems to be a sweet spot.

what type of chrony are you using? I use 46.8grs of 2000mr with the 178gr hpbt and i'm getting around 2570 with a 18.5" gas gun.

Magnetospeed v2 and a Competition Electronics. Both read within 5 fps of each other on average.

I use CE prochrono. 10ft from muzzle. 26" barrel. Im more surprised at no pressure signs than the fps to be honest. Just wasnt expecting it. For ref the chrono showed 2681fps for 175 SMK with 41g of Alliant AR COMP and 2645 for 178 AMAX and 40.1g of AR COMP on the same day and conditions

What do I think? I think 2800fps is haulin ass for a 178 anything! Wows!

I would be looking at the max length 2.885 coal target, so you can run these out of your mag. I would load more around the 47.7 through 48.1 more specifically 47.9 to see whats going on there.

Good job, let us know how it turns out!

Sounds about right.... 2000mr is good stuff. FYI, I get about 1-1.2 fps to 1 degree change with the ammo/powder temp. May vary lot to lot but that's what i've been seeing.

I know a couple people that are getting ~2850 fps with Berger 185s using somewhere in the neighborhood of 47.5 gr PP200MR. Seems to me like your velocity is right where you'd expect it to be.

Nice. It sounds like the chrono wasnt lying. What kind of ES and Stdv are you getting with MR 2000?? Im not too happy with ES and Stdev im getting. Granted I only took 4 shots per load with 178 bthps but it wasnt any better with the 30 I took last time with 47.5g and 168SMKs. I've always been getting lower ES and StDev with AR Comp but at a lower FPS

You might try annealing (I know your brass is newish) or look at your neck tension. I get single digit SD with Sierras and Noslers.

Dope never lies. I thought my chrono was on the Fritz but hit after hit on 8" plate at 600 let me know things were good. Some times you just get lucky.

Wow, I'm surprised... I'm getting single digit SDs and 10-11 ES with 210m primers...

ES of 10? Wow. Thats basically as good as it gets. I get jealous when I hear staff like that lol. I need to find out whats causing it in my reloading process. One possibility is that I dont trim the brass unless its over 2.015". So my brass is anywhere from 2.005 to 2.015". You think that might cause high ES and stdDev?

I'd say you're good, my ProChrono is giving me 2726fps with 47.3grs 2000MR and rem brass under 178HPBTs. 24" tube.

Unfortunately, some people have to work harder than others to find a good load. Someone said neck tension which is a possibility and also powder measure inconsistencies.

Interesting. I'm not even weighing each charge right now but am getting single digit SD. I've been trusting my Harrel's measure (2000MR meters really well)

im going to trim the brass to same length too see if ill get better results. It might be because of chargemaster too. I know its not that accurate but I calibrate every time I use it. Then check it with the little lyman scale weights checks. When it spits the powder out I wait few secs after beep. Pick up the tray move it around and put it back on the scale to double check and only then the powder goes into the brass. I get single SD here and there but def not on regular basis.

Anneal your brass and load some more at 48.1 at .055 off. I think your done with load development. What type of dies are you using?

I also use a chargemaster and double check each charge.

I get 2800 FPS with 48.0gr of 2000MR, shooting 185 Berger OTM's out of a 24" barrel. No pressure signs.
Do watch out as temperatures rise. I am good at 80F but when I shoot a lot over this temp I back off by 0.5gr.
