I have a savage .223 bolt gun and a savage .308 bolt gun. They are used to shoot steel and target shoot. The .223 has been used for pest control and the .308 might be used for the same this year. Mainly for coyotes. The .223 has a swfa 10x and the .308 has a 16x

I have been looking into the m223 and m308 line, or basically any nikon scope to try out the spon on app. I shoot 95% hand loads. Is this a smart choice? I am basically just looking for reviews or info on the spot on app with running a nikon optic.

Thanks

Strelok on android/iphone does the same thing (for less $ I believe) but with more companies/reticles than just Nikon. I use Strelok for my Vortex Viper HS 2.5-10x44 BDC and it seems to work pretty well. They have the vortex BDC on there to choose from.

For a review on a Nikon M223, I can help. I have one in the 3-12x42 flavor, and was pleasantly surprised at the image quality. Good low power, decent high power and I have shot mine out to 720 yds. on my AR. Plenty of optic for a larger than golf ball size target (12" steel, coyotes and jackrabbits). Only $400 when you time it right and get a good sale.

I use Strelok on my phone too, and it has been very accurate as long as you know your MV and BC for your hand loads. The M223 BDC600 reticle is in Strelok, and it will give you what your actual circles equal with your load and given conditions.

Another vote for Strelok - the basic version is free, the advanced version is cheap. Get that, get a mil-based reticle (or MOA-based if you must), make a range card, and you'll be better off than with any BDC reticle.

This but I'd ditch the 16x for a 10x or 12x for the added FOV if you want to use it for pest control.

His 10x equals closer range and 16x for the longer range pest control, I think he is covered unless we are talking larger pests like big hogs then the 16x at close range may not be the best option but if there that close the 10x .223 to the head should solve the problem!
