Has anyone ever built two rifles just to see which one they liked better?

^ Anyone ever do this? I know it is very common among this crowd to own more than one rifle for different purposes. But I'm not confident in going for a second rifle that is pretty much going to serve the same purpose.

But there are some new stock/action combos out there that I'm anxious to try, and I don't want to sell my ONLY rifle to fund the venture, plus, I've waited rifle-less for a year before, it's NOT fun.

Anyone out there build two rifles to see which they liked more and sold the other one?

I'm starting to think that people around here just build rifles to have(zero rounds down range), put in the safe, say they never have time to shoot and then sell a year or so later.?!?!?????

Just something I've observed around here.

I think I may have an even worse problem: I buy a bunch of parts for a rifle, build it, go out and shoot, then decide to replace something, shoot, then replace another thing, shoot, then replace another thing, shoot, then I decide to replace the whole rifle, wait a few months to get all the parts again, and then the process begins all over again! It's killing my wallet, but my simple mind knows no better!... I'm having fun though, gotta say.

Some people are happy just tinkering with their guns and thinking of what to change/build next. All the more power to them as long as it makes them happy.

To each his own!! I like to shoot a rifle and see it's personality. Paper doesn't lie, gun or shooter. That's just me. If it's a shooter(sub MOA), than it's a little harder to let it go. But what do I know?!?!?, I'm just a bad actor!

I went in to get a custom 308 made bjt when they told me it might take 7 to 10 months to get the manners stock I changed my mind and had them put the 308 barrel I bought on my rem 700 in XLR. I had them true it also and put in a new trigger. I then placed an order for a custom 6.5 off a defiance deviant. Now I have 2 bolt action rifles in similar calibers and am even toying with the idea of getting another custom one built in 6mm when my bank account recovers. The way I see it I can shoot the 308 a ton and not worry about barrel life and baby the 6.5 in case I ever want to compete, or use the 308 in any comps restricting to 223/308. Plus I enjoy the science behind reloading and ballistics so have another rifle just adds to that fun. You can never have too many guns.

I've bought enough used rifles, both stock and custom, to get a good idea of their pluses and minuses "to me", and sold the ones I didn't care for, even though some things were small things since I'm picky, things that someone else might even like. Fortunately by this point I know what I like and what I don't like for the most part! I will say learning that lesson gets very expensive. Also I have friends that own the best money can buy and you know what, I'd rather stay where I'm at because the extra $$$$$ they spent is not worth it to me.

At times I do get bored with my awesome rifles and chamberings that I've put a lot of thought into, so I contemplate building another rifle so I can try some other cartridge that might be slightly more appealing in certain ways, which after thinking about it it gets a bit silly because by the time I did all that and bought another scope, dies, brass, etc I'd be into the next build enough to buy a decades worth of barrels for my current rifles, lol??!!! Of course if one has the disposable income.... I know a guy that had a horrible time finding a insurance Co to insure his 1000+ guns, yes that's one thousand, lol. Pretty cool problem to have, right???

Well, that's why I never built a custom 223 bolt rifle, especially since my AR is very accurate.

Last night I was thinking about having a fast twist 375 Ruger barrel made up for the Surgeon XL. 350's at 2700 fps, sounds like fun doesn't it, sure would slam the steel hard. Silly me. I need this about as much as I need another wife, lol. At least it's just a easy barrel change.

This is almost the EXACT same thing I'm going through _Raining. I've got a newy finished Defiance in an XLR chassis, but I want to try out another one in a Manners stock, but it's a 7 month wait, plus I want to try a Bighorn TL3 action, but at the same time I don't want to give up my current 6.5CM XLR rifle during the wait. The Bighorn is a different XLR inlet than the Defiance, so I can't just swap stocks for the wait... So here I am juggling two builds lol.

And... Damn Steve123! That's all I can say haha. A cool problem to have indeed, no doubt.

Ahaha XD thanks for the responses guys. I guess I was just getting a little uncomfortable with the amount of money this hobby is getting me to spend (but I can't help it!). Sure helps to know that I'm not at all the only one buying up more than I can logically justify XD

Your not alone, I keep using the same gap camo color on all my manners stocks so when I pull one out of the safe the wife thinks I just have one. I'll be f$&ked if she ever looks inside!

Later on this year I will be upgrading my scope and getting a new barreled action. My only justification is that it makes me happy. You don't have to explain yourself to anyone unless you have a significant other.
