So I have a tikka t3 sporter chambered in 6.5x55. Will probably need a new barrel in the next 500-800 rounds.

I want to stick with 6.5
I reload primarily. Really nearly entirely

Do I stick with the swede or go 6.5CR or something else. I though about going 6.5x55ai. But I have so little time these days I don't want to waste time fire forming brass

This is primarily a range gun, I may start shooting local comps if my schedule starts loosening up.

My local rang goes to 1100 yards so all of the relevant calibers will suffice

Best ballistics for the barrel life?
One thing I really like about the swede is the 6.5x55 lapua brass is always the cheapest. $65ish for 100pc

I've never had the opportunity to run a 6.5x55 but it's been on my list for some time now. That being said I recently went back to 6.5 Creed after running some other shit last couple of years and am happy I did. The small primer Lapua brass was what made my decision easier. The ability to run it a little harder than I used to run the Hornaday and still have good primer pockets is taking the little Creed into different territory IMO. The Tikka is also a damn fine action to build on.

Cause he doesnt have time to screw with fireforming. Its in his post.

I say creedmore if time is an issue. You can buy factory for a good deal if time doesnt allow for loading.

i dont know anything, just what I am planning based on my oh so busy schedule for the next forever!

I don't think it matters much either way.

I've used 2 sporterized Swedish Mausers and a M41B. None have disappointed even though it was a 2600 - 2650 fps load. I use Lapua brass too and can't imagine using something else. I shot a friends Tikka in 6.5x55 and it kept up fine with my expensive custom in 6x47L.

If your already tooled up for the Swede, why change? You can push the 140's faster, albeit with less barrel life (not by much).

Yea this is what I was thinking. But I figured hey at a cross road. Good time to explore alternatives.

Thinking about trying a hardy barrel

yeah, go with the 6.5 addiction, which is basically a 6.5x55 AI. I know you say you don't want to do the fire forming, but you do shoot right? so you can fire form. you would be surprised how well a std 6.5x55 load will shoot while fire forming. no need to actually go out to fire form. just load and shoot the rounds you want with the brass you have, and on the second firing and beyond it will be an addiction. I do/did that with my 338 Laupa Imp. I had dope and a full power load for a std 338 Lapua and it shot in the .3s while fire forming. And since you already have brass and dies for 6.5x55 your aren't out anything.

now, if you want to be able to buy really awesome factory ammo, then def go for the 6.5 creed. other than that, for what you have, I would go with the addiction

If he is already set up for a long action, why would he go 6.5 Addiction? Why cram the bullets way down to the ogive when he can run them long AF in a standard Swede chamber? Seems like a terrible idea unless he is planning on switching over to short action mags.
