I spent a good bit of time trying to decipher whether or not anyone was successfully running the SS 5-20x50 hd scope with some form of zero stops? I've got a handful of fixed SWFA's running delrin washers with great success and because I seem to be comfortable with those scopes it was only logical for me now that I'm looking to move up into some better glass to go with this scope, but I read, although unsurely, that this is the only scope in the SS lineup that doesn't take kindly to using the delrin washer zero stop.?

I have missed multiple stages because I've been an entire revolution off on my turrets (prior to setting my turret stops ), so my next scope absolutely-positively must have zero stops. Is the SS 5-20x50 a no go then?

Nik is correct. TimK was making and selling them but due to the design, they could potentially damage the scope. This is/was pretty unlikely, but SWFA didn't want to chance it. I helped demo them in my scope and never damaged anything. You could potentially make you own. My SWFA HD was a great scope and had excellent glass and great tracking. But if you absolutely, positively, have to have zero-stop :(

You will probably never get burned being a revolution off again though!

Thanks guys. This confirms what i had thought. Guess I'm going to up my budget for an SHV or a DMRII.....any other thoughts? I have to have zero stop.

I would go the DMRII or T5Xi route. The SHV will only be MIL/MIL FFP in the 4-14 model. The SHV 5-20 is SFP and only MOA/MOA. Granted I usually run my scope from 12-15, so I dont think x14 would hurt you but I have powered up to 20 on a handful of stages, usually from 800-1200 yards.

The DMRII you can find in the $1200-1300 range in the PX. I havnt seen any deals via retailers besides Bushnells 25% off rebate, but that has come and gone.

The T5Xi you can find in the $1300-1500 range in the PX. EuroOptics and Natches Shooters Supply from time to time have refurb/blem models in the $1100-1200 range.

The features on both are great and I would feel confident with either of them on a match rifle. If you come down some coin I would look at the XTRII.

That scope has 10 mil turret. How on earth do you need a dummy stop.

Culpepr, apparently I'm a dummy thats why. ALL 3 of my other swfa scopes zero at at the 4th or 5th rev mark with 20 moa badger pic rails. When Ive only got 15 seconds left to find an obscured head size target hidden in a pine tree or something of that sort, im not real keen on having to pull my head off the glass and look up at my turret rev marks. Zero stops help a TON in a match when your hustling to get shots off in time when one shot is @ 1100 and the next is 230.Ya feel me? Im a new at this stuff so maybe I should just learn to have.better target acquisition so i am not so rushed feeling and as such I wouldn't need a stop.

It is funny that you point this out. A couple or three weeks ago I was at a .22LR match. 50, 100 and 200 yards. I use an SWFA 3-15 on my Annie. I also have a ZS on this scope. It is the only scope I own with multiple revolutions. My other scopes (S&B, Kahles, NF) all are two revolution models with ZS.

This was the first match I shot with this rifle. I didn't enter the 50 yard portion as that was open sights only. You had 2 sighter shots. I fired at 100 yards and missed the two inch plate both times. Spotter saw nothing....panic descended. Thought my scope was f'd up. Went to another lane and shot at a colored stone that was clearly visible at the 100 yard berm. Couldn't see where it hit. After a couple more shots, I saw an impact and I was super high. Dialed down and finally got the scope to arrange a perfect intersection of POA and POI. I shot the 100 yard portion and came in 2nd. Dialed my known come up and won the 200 yard portion. At this point I still thought there was something wrong with the scope but at least it was consistent.

Went home and posted a note here and someone said you were off in revolution. I said NO WAY and I would figure it out the next day by shooting paper at my zero of 50 yards. I then noticed that my data book setting was 4.9 mils different from the setting at the match....hmmmmm. Went back the next day and dialed down from the 200 yard setting and fired at 50...all good. I then checked that I was at zero by moving the turret and figured the delrin washer would stop ASAP....nope....one revolution off. When I shot at the adjacent zero setting next to the zero stop; I was way low. Not only was I one rev off but I had not put the correct height of washers in place to guarantee I would not be off in revolution. Why was I one rev off; my son decided he wanted to adjust my scope when it was laying on the couch before the match.

Moral....take your time and set the ZS correctly; use two revolution scopes and never let my son near my rifle:)

i get the zero stop thing...i also ran an 5-20hd for about 2 yrs in matches

culpepper has a point...you cant compare running 5 mil turrets to 10 mil turrets...on 5 mil scopes, absolutely a zero stop, shooting long range matches u spend a lot of time 1 rev up in the 5-10 mil range..., on 10+ mil turrets, its REALLY hard to get lost on...about the only way i could see it happening is if youre out shooting at 10.3 mils and leave the range and forget to dial back to zero...then next time out, you just dial down 0.3, but you should zero your turret after a stage anyways

my minox zp5 (15 mil turret) and gen 2 razor (10 mil turret) both have zero stops below the actual zero like .5 mil...ive owned the razor for 2+ yrs and the minox for about 4 months now, shot LOTS of matches during that time...ive probably actually touched the zero stop in a match on either one a combined 0 times, it might as well not even be there lol
