hello all,
I am looking at picking up a new rifle. Something more on the basic side to mess around with. I don't not have any experience with the howa 1500 actions. For those of you that do. How do they compare to the savage model 12? I am looking at the howa in the grs berserk stock or the savage 12 lrp. Seems like a lot of people say the howa recoil lugs don't account for much. Opinions? Thanks

The savage is pretty good rifle, easy to upgrade and normally quite accurate out of the box.
The Howa is a very nice rifle with a superior action, superior bolt and, some think, a superior trigger. (I have never had a problem with the accu trigger).
The Howa is a flat bottom receiver with integral recoil lug. Much better than a sandwich lug.
For just a little more you can get the howa chassis rifle and run detachable mags although the stock bottom metal is excellent on the Howa.

I never have many issues with a savage. Sure there is better out there but the user replaceable barrels is a huge selling point for me. Dont know much about the howa but most of what I hear is good. Really it will boil down to what you like.

I currently have a ruger precision in 6.5 creed. So I am not looking at the chassis rifles. Looking for something a little more traditional. Both of these rifles have stocks on them I could use for a while after possibly bedding. The grs stock gets great reviews for the most part. More so questioning which action is build better and runs smoother. Seems if I want to run detachable mags howa has better priced bottom metal and mag kits.

Savage LRP does not need to do a bedding work (H-S stock version), it is already floated.... Agreed with the previous posts that the Howa has better action.

I own both. Both shoot amazing. But I'm siding with the howa as the action and bolt are amazing. Smooth, not much slop and no need to upgrade like the savage. My savage hangs up on the action when working the bolt of I don't pull straight back (this is due to lower tolerneces between the bolt body and action) I'm also fond of the two stage trigger the howa has.
