Didn't need to watch the whole thing, but I get the gist of it. I myself don't have any kids serving because my kids are obviously too young, but my little brother is serving in the USAF. If God forbid the worst happened to him, I would NOT want to be contacted AT ALL by Trump. Wouldn't wanna be contacted from Obama or Bush or Clinton or Daddy Bush or Reagan, etc. you get the point.
As far as the interviewer goes, are you all that surprised? CNN, FNC, MSNBC, it doesn't matter. They don't care about anyone but themselves and their wallets. Just look at what happened after the Sandy Hook massacre. The victims bodies weren't even cold yet and interviewers wanted to interview the parents of the dead kids and the kids who witnessed it and survived. Being a heartless non-human must be a requirement for becoming a news interviewer.

I imagine you can either refuse the call (if it comes) or hang up when you find out who it is.

I read that there is always a pre-call that someone from the Government makes to tell the recipient that a call from (Fill in blank) is being requested. The recipient can decline or accept

I don't think the phone call is a cold call, spur of the moment event.
It is scheduled ahead of time.
According to one of the reports I listened to, maybe Glenn Beck?, the parents were contacted the day before and asked if they'd accept the call from POTUS. For whatever fucking reason they then contacted this cunt of a Congresscritter and told her the President would be calling them. So the bitch was present during the call (inside a car?) on speakerphone and then within minutes is on the phone to CNN but also hedges and says something to the effect that "she didn't hear the whole conversation".
The report also raised the issue that no matter who you are, you can't just call CNN, or any network, claim to have whatever info and immediately be interviewed or broadcast. There's apparently supposed to be some level of background/vetting.
This shit screams of yet another orchestrated setup, only this time utilizing a gold star family.
I di PGR honor guard a few times in that neighborhood, lots of militants, but lots of vets and good youngsters there too, strangest hood I had to go to when I lived in S Fla. That being said I got to emphazise that I went there more than a few times to do onor guard so there are lots of goo folks there.
