New to Dillon. Any dies work on the press?

Do any dies work on this? I have a 550B and have a tool head currently with 45 ACP and I want to switch it to 223 and want to make sure I have everything to do so. I know I need the conversion kit but wasn't sure what else.

Do do I need a new powder die?
Can I use my Lee or Forster dies?

All brass is fully prepped so I shouldn't need a full length sizer in there, just the powder die, seater, and crimp if I want it.

You can use the same powder die, the caliber conversion will come with a 223 powder funnel. You’ll have to switch to small primers and rifle powder bar. You can use your Lee dies. I use two tool heads for 223, one tool head that does case prep, then I trim, chamfer and deburr, then another toolhead for priming, powder drop and bullet seating.

Nice. Yea I have 9mm on it now (have two tool heads) so it's already set up for the smal primer. Is the other powder bar included with the press? I bought it used but it should be somewhere in this box if it was.

Lee dies are short so you may need to place the lock ring on the underside of the tool head.

IIRC, the powder dump comes with two bars. The magnum bars are sold separate. You need the powder die that works with that caliber, I can't be sure which one it is but I'm sure it's one of the smaller ones. There's a list and index that comes with the press that shows what you need to convert it to what. I have the 650 but it's pretty much he same.

Dillon has really good CS and they can tell you EXACTLY what you'll need and how to setup each caliber. You really need the book if you don't have it though. It's just paper, they should send you one if you ask.

Pretty much any die will work with it, some do sit awful low. Any lock ring will work but some are too big and you may have to use the Dillon rings if dies are close together and have thick lock rings.

And yes, it's okay to overcam this press. I wasn't sure given the design and didn't wanna fuck it up.

I use different load blocks too, it's what really makes these presses shine. Having ten different powder dumps and alarms, etc. may seem overkill, but it really makes work fast. The sizing and trim blocks haven't been touched since being setup the first time but on occasion the auto trimmer has to be slightly reset due to torque on startup.

At a minimum you need a caliber conversion kit(shell plate, brasslocator pins, powder die piece). most 7/8 dies should work

you can use the powder die and toolhead you have Easier to get an extra one of each for faster swap time

you will need to change out primer mag, primer seating piece
