Looking for some input on whether or not to go with NF's Mil-C reticle over the Mil-R. No stores within a hour and half of me have the Mil-C in stock so I can't check it out in person.

Just looked at another one. Very nice reticle, I think it's significantly better than the Mil-R. Reticle is slightly thinner than the Mil-R, the center dot I REALLY like. Very useable. Two guys I know that own the Mil-R Versions are trying to sell to replace their scopes with the Mil-C. Center dot reticles seem to be on the uptick lately, ie, Minox, March, etc.

I have a feeling that NF will eventually do reticle swaps for the Mil-C but it wouldn't surprise me if they decline to do that right now and commit all the Mil-C reticles to new scope builds. That would make the fastest way to go from a Mil-R to a Mil-C is to sell the scope and get one with the Mil-C reticle.

I actually asked nightforce about this a few weeks ago and they told me they would look into swaps about a year after the initial release of the mil-c.

Covert is as Covert does.

Plenty of good feedback on the scout site.

Minox MR4 > Vortex EBR2C > Burris SCR > Mil-C > Mil-R

I know NF acquired Horus or something to that effect, but I'm not a fan of them other than the wind markers and wouldn't get a scope with a Horus or Mil-R reticle personally.

I talked to NF about a reticle swap. They said, most likely, swaps will be available in the next month or two for the 5-25. Cost for F1 swap is $600!!!! They won't be able to do the 4-16 until they offer it as a reticle in that model although they're getting lots of requests for MIL-C in the 4-16 model so I'd expect that to come soon. $1800 to swap three reticles. Ouch! I suspect the MIL-R reticled scopes won't get as much on the aftermarket to sell and buy new scopes to make it worthwhile taking that route.

Think the Mil-C is a big upgrade over the Mil-R if not for long range precision shooting? I have the Mil-R on a atacr for a 308 gas gun and wondering if its worth the upgrade

For $600, it would be cheaper to sell your current MIL-R and buy a new scope. I called last week and confirmed it's 600.. and they aren't able to swap on 4-16 just yet.

Im guessing you meant mil -R? What if I changed to h59? Would that be a significant change

Yeah, duh, i meant thr mil-r. I can't type lol. Yes, the H59 would be a quite a significant change to say the least. Some really like them, many really dislike them. There's a learning curve with them to use them to the full potential of the reticle. I'd recommend you get behind one and actually shoot at distance with one prior to changing if possible, as well as having a definite reason (what's your goal with that reticle as to why you really want an H-59 over what you already have). I have used one and except for the fact they are great for quick follow up shots following a miss (if you really need that capability), give it some serious consideration before making a change. Just my 2 cents...
