I'm looking for scope recommendations, I'm interested in the newer Leupold Mark 5's and also the REVIC scopes, but I'm obviously looking for recommendations with all the scopes in the market nowadays. I've provided some detailed information below:
  • Platform for which the scope will be used: Bolt Action and/or Semi-Auto
  • Cartridge(s) used: .224 Valkyrie (Semi), .308 Winchester (Semi), 6.5 Creedmoor (Bolt), I want to buy a scope that will fit all my needs in the case I need to transfer it to a different gun.
  • The intended use of the scope: Hunting, Target, and Steel
  • Type of conditions I will typically shoot in: Daylight, Lowlight, Nighttime with use of a thermal clip-on
  • Typical distances I intend to shoot: 100-1000+ yds
  • Specifications I would like: FFP, side focus, low turrets, mil, lightweight, illumination, ZeroStop, hold-over style reticle
  • Price Range: $2,800 and below, I'll most likely be buying the scope off the Hide, so factor the typical Hide pricing into my price range number.

The Revic would be really nice but if you wanted to save some money on your budget look at the Athlon Cronus BTR. It checks all of your boxes and is a pretty awesome scope for the money.

That is a pretty broad set of shooting criteria, but price range should get you to where you want to go.

You did not mention range. For general shooting, I prefer the mid-magnification, like 3-15x. If you are going long-range, the 5-25x range is the most I would recommend. You are going to get a much lighter scope at 3-15x, or there abouts.

I think my all time favorite is probably the S&B 3-20x Ultra Short. In that price range, you can find one that is gently used. This scope just seems to satisfy most needs. Don't be fooled by the name, because, it is still a big scope, but is a more modern design and hits most any magnification.

Next, I would consider the Steiner M5xi 3-15x. An amazing scope, with a lot of versatility, and I think you can get that scope new for close to your price-range, and get it with standard and Hourus reticles.

Both the S&B and Steiner have the low turrets, and hold-over reticle options.

I would also look at Kahles. New this year, is the Kahles 3-18x, and it has the SKMR3 (holdover) reticle. You won't pay extra for a Horus, and this is a nice reticle. The scope is not yet on the shelves, and it has an "ultra-short" new design. You can also look at the 6-24x, which is an older model, but starting at 6x can be a bit much.

Finally, I would consider Nightforce. Given your budget, the mid-magnification is where you would land. The ATACR is very nice, and more compact than the NXS. The NXS tends to be lighter than other scopes, but only a few are FFP.

I stayed away from Vortex and Athlon for weight. I also like Minox. FWIW.

Good luck. This is fun.
