I saw that they said "3000M" in the article, so yeah, 2862 (Meters) is real close.
For those who haven't visited, the Naval Aviation Museum has a room called Sunken Treasures where they display underwater wreckages of an F4F (like this one) and an SBD. The very dark room is set up to make you feel like you're walking on the ocean floor with simulated waves shimmering down from overhead, and the wrecked aircraft are sitting on the simulated ocean floor in front of you, just as they were discovered. It is one of the coolest displays I've ever seen as it puts you "in" the environment.

Finally, a software billionaire who isn't about being some kind of social-engineering ass-pirate.
Allen's funding of historical research and battlefield archaeology has been nothing short of outstanding.
The preservation of those aircraft and artifacts.... amazing. I hope he raised a single item from the wreck, allowing him to claim salvage rights and preventing anyone else from going down and stealing things. It's a war grave. It needs to be protected.
