Is there any accuracy detriment to taking a 5/16 endmill through the recoil lug slot of a stock that has been bedded for another rifle, to free up room for mine? At some point I would be rebeddig it, but I do not have time to do it before this weekend.

Or does the recoil lug need to be in contact with the back wall of the slot?

Ideally, the recoil lug needs to be in contact with back of the slot. That is one of the three most compelling reasons to bed an action.

Cutting the slot for clearance in preparation for bedding of your action is really the right idea, but you need to follow that up by bedding it right afterwards so that you can clean it up Friday night and shoot it properly bedded on Saturday. Otherwise you are most likely setting yourself up for a frustrating weekend of shooting.

That is kind of what I figured, though I was hoping someone would prove me wrong! Thanks for the quick response Lash. Looks like I'll be running my xlr evo this weekend
