Gunsmithing 6.5x47 reamer specs

Im looking to buy my own reamer to i have the exact same chamber everytime i have a barrel chambered. Ive pretty much decided on a manson reamer but im looking for input on the best reamer specs for 6.5x47. I shoot alot of PRS so i want a no turn neck. Ill be having custom dies made to match the reamer/chamber too

Send a dummy round in to Manson. Seat your favorite bullet to the depth you want in the neck. Then specify how much jump you want with the bullet seated that way.

In my opinion the best neck diameter to use is .293 or .294" for a no turn neck. Loaded Lapua no turn necks always measures very close to .290" so .003-.004" of clearance for the neck is perfect. If you want to shoot 140 grain bullets I recommend a freebore between .160 and .180". With this freebore the base of the bearing surface on your 140 grain bullets are generally just above the neck shoulder junction on the brass. This varies by bullet as some have longer boat tails or ogives.

In my opinion the PT&G standard reamer is perfect for no turn necks and 140 grain bullets. I have chambered 3 barrels with one and they all function and shoot amazingly well. You can also buy these reamers from several websites where they are in stock and you won't have to wait to get it. Last time I checked PT&G's website their premium pilot standard 6.5x47 reamers were in stock for about $160. PT&G has pretty mixed reviews on customer service, but I have never had a problem when just ordering in stock items.

I would but my current chamber is all kinds of weird and the gun really doesnt shoot like a x47 should thats why i wanna buy my own reamer

Like the 6.5 creedmoor, the 47 was designed originally as a match round, so the standard dimensions are dang near spot on. Really the only decisions are neck clearance and freebore. With a long neck and no magazine constraints, you have quite a bit of flexibility there. Im kind of a fan of the 130’s in the 47, so I have .120 freebore. I had a Neil jones fl die made to match my reamer, which is something you may consider. Really nice die, and brass lasts forever.

my reamer is from JGS the body specs are untouched the neck is straight .293 the freebore is .100 and my reamer was built for the 130 and 140g berger hybrids...as suggested its best to send in a dummy round with the bullet you plan to shoot and have the reamer built to that...sending in a dummy round has nothing to do with your current chamber.
