Add REI to the List of Companies to Boycott

REI has now joined the attack on civil liberties:

"REI and Mountain Equipment Co-op, two outdoor retail chains that are also customer cooperatives, said Thursday they were suspending orders for popular items like Bell bicycle helmets and CamelBak water bottles from the company that owns the brands, Vista Outdoor, because Vista also makes assault-style rifles."

Dang.
They wanted to drive a point really bad. Ceasing the sale of two completely unrelated items simply becasue their parent company manufactures an item you don’t like is hard core.

Someone with an agenda had to seek that info out that Savage fell under Vistas umbrella.

I wonder if they are pissed as well that Federal is a Vista company?

Hands off FGMM.

I know REI is bent but I didnt think they would apply this dumb irrational thinking.

I'm just sitting here thinking about what sort of POS would even contemplate returning a coat that they had owned for 11 months.

Well, now I know.

People abusing those return plans is what caused LL Bean to recently end it, probably why Craftsman has gone to shit and likely will cause Dillon to someday abandon there liberal return/replacement policy.

If I buy gear use it as designed and it plain old wears out it has done what it was designed to do.

I return shit only when it fails in its designed purpose, manufacturing defect or within agreed terms because its doesnt fit and I havent worn it.

What I see lately that alarms me is that you can buy big dollar items like furniture and if it arrives banged up companies wont accept it back and they send you a brand new one.

My wife recently bought a mirror. The first arrived almost falling out of the box and the frame was all scarred up.

The vendor told her to throw it out or donate it to goodwill, they will ship new.

Second one arrived, package intact but the painted frame was again all banged up, shitty overseas made bamboo wouldnt hold paint or whatever with slightest amount of movement in the packaging.

Requested RMA for both mirrors and cancellation of sale.

They refunded the money and said keep the mirrors.

Fucking slap in the face because it basically tells me they are saying "The shit we sell is worthless"

Sucks for me because now I have a Honey Do list that includes "Make Mirror Frames".

On large items such as furniture that have to come freight, the cost for returning it is sometimes quite excessive, hence the company may just give you a refund / replacement and not take the other item back if the costs for returning it would be too high & the actual cost of goods to the seller is not that much.

Yep if the cost of item A is $200 than sending two guys and a truck doesnt make sense.

But this has happened when cost of item was $800.

In the case of the mirror it came shipped UPS, Just have UPS pick it back up so costs are maybe $75 to get back a $175 mirror you than sell scratch and dent for $100.

What this tells me is that these imported items are so ridiculously cheap the retail price is three to four times what the merchant pays.

I have to plead color crayons and butcher paper. Help me out here.....Where did this response come from ? (Not REI or another company ? (did it ?)).

Im guessing its a PM from poster that stated he will continue to buy gear at REI because he can use it all year than return it for full refund.

VeerG called him out on his POS practice even though he is doing a fraudulent thing to a bunch of POS's.

Thx Mac.

That really is a shit thing to do. If the product is good, a person really does have a moral obligation to live up to his/her end of the bargain. If the product isn't good, the manufacturer/seller has an obligation to live up to their's. Quite simple.

Shit, I've missed out on all the tough guy PM's.
This reminds me of the best buy TV game.
Buy a 100 inch TV for the Super Bowl(insert important programming) and return the following week.

DunBoer, Feathered Friends or Western Mountaineering are the only 2 I know of with a US made down coat.

Also fellas, check out Voormi. Made in CO from wool grown in CO. I got one of their hoodies for Christmas thanks to my wonderful lady and couldn't be more impressed.

and yeah, done with REI. Never bought much there anyways, now it will be nothing.

Feathered Friends is right down the road from REI's flagship store in Seattle and rest assured they are just as liberal as REI.

So you like to finance the goals of your enemies.
You know, the ones that would rid you of your new Glock.

Turnabout is fair play, no?

Conservatives and people on the right generally have chosen to take the moral high ground while the leftists advance on all fronts by playing dirty. Where has it gotten us? Fighting BS encroachments on our rights from all sides.

Fuck the high ground, we need to fight these assholes in the trenches, on the street and on social media.

Buying a coat, wearing it all year, then returning it is a good tactic in this war of ideas. It will cost them money in the long run which is less money they have to campaign for our rights to be eliminated.

I think you are completely missing the point. The person who referenced this act likely makes a habit of such behavior wherever he shops.
Becoming crooks and thieves is really not a very good "plan".

Nice thing is Im guessing most of their die hard liberal supporters, that hate us, already conduct themselves that way anyhow.

These corporations simply think "Time will heal all wounds" and they really have nothing to worry about. Pompus clowns need an enima!!

I STILL boycott BP for how they handled that oil spill. If you are gonna go the boycott route, do it until they collapse. FWIW, I saw AM/PM's go out of business left and right after that spill and I know I'm not the only one. Just gotta spread the word.

But yeah, fuck REI.

Cabelas is way over priced and they denied my 5% veterans' discount today on ammo. They said they no longer honor it for ammo and other cool things vets want to buy, but they will on clothes. I would have gone elsewhere to buy some, but nobody seems to carry .260 anymore, thanks to all the 6.5 cm hype.

Along the lines of REI, LL Bean is getting in on the action as well in case anyone missed it.
.
http://fortune.com/2018/03/02/ll-bean-guns/

Not good but they are still selling guns.

REI is taking food from the table of some guy that makes a bike helmet in order to make a point in an industry they have no connection to.

.....and the LL Bean family, actual relative of LL supported Trump.

I note the point "guns only used for hunting and target shooting"

Someone needs to educate the country that THE target shooting rifle is the AR15 - National Matches, Presidents 100, CMP, you name it - AR15 is there.

Sweet, sweet irony....

Came home and this was in the mailbox,

Had to re activate my membership to get the check. Check will be cut first week in July.

My new 2% CC came today too.

I'll be paying REI card in full and it will be going dormant until I can cancel everything after I get my check.

So I think the only reason REI made this stupid decision was because someone made a petition about it, calling them out: https://www.thepetitionsite.com/565/305/346/tell-rei-to-drop-vista-outdoor-products/

They got just under 18,000 people in the USA to sign the online petition.

I think we should make a counter petition that states that REI should sell firearms and ammunition and get at least 100k people to sign it. Would be comical at the least....

There is a link on LRI's page to pay with pay pal. Not sure of pay pals exact policy but paying for gunsmithing is definitely gun related.

Being a dishonest douche bag, using and returning something just to stick it a company. Not a fucking chance. Two wrongs don't make a right. Jesus, can we please show some fucking integrity. We demand it from them, but we should let it fly in the wind. If we are shown to be lying ass holes just like them, how are we better?

The problem is holding the moral high ground is not winning the battle. We as a group are quiet live and let live people. We are not as organized nor as loud. Action must be taken. 80% of gun owners wont go to a pro-gun rally because they fear "the government" is watching who showes up.

This makes our numbers seem small and our voices not as heard.

Some want to believe we are a democracy which would be "majority rules" when we are in fact a Republic which means every single person has equal rights and the majority can not squash even one person's rights.

We are affraid that if we act out that the anti-gun will point at us a say "see nut job gun owner".

GSD molting season is about here. Wonder if they'll take a coat back after it's used as a dog bed for a few months?

I pretty much disagree with every bit of this. The media wants us think we are loosing, but new people are buying guns at a record pace. The media wants it to look like popular opinion is anti-gun. But the most popular candidate was Hilary Clinton. The media wants us to believe we are loosing, but are we? The war was won in 1776. We have been fighting off the cowards ever since, and that will never change. The founders knew it, and we should all know it.

Show me one leftist organization with as many members as the NRA. We are more organized, and we have the law on our side. That doest mean a win though, we still have to keep fighting.

The NRA doesn't have paid protesters to go commit violence is the only difference. And their protesters would be treated much differently.

Thats why FL is passing anti-gun legislation with a GOP supermajority right? Right? Big fucking lick of good Marion Hammer ($300k/yr salary and all!) and the NRA have done down there. Americans are short sighted and make decisions based on emotions. The left realizes this and operates accordingly while we stand stoically with logic and reason.

But muh high ground!

You can enjoy your morals and integrity as they prod you onto the train. At least we'll die with dignity amirite?

Thats the end game with commies, anyone who believes otherwise is a fool. Period. Full stop.

We can either have a chance to win by getting dirty in the trenches in a war for popular culture or we can get overran by a human wave.

Also, Service =/= gun parts. PayPal Firearms Policy

We don’t allow PayPal members to buy or sell any kind of firearm, whether it’s in working order or not. The same goes for certain firearm parts and ammunition.

For example, using PayPal, you can’t buy or sell:

  • Any firearm, including rifles, shotguns, and handguns, whether they’re for sport and recreation, collectibles, or curio or relic firearms.
  • Firearm parts, including but not limited to receivers and frames, silencers, and kits designed to modify guns so that they fire automatically. High capacity magazines, multi-burst trigger activators, and camouflaging firearm containers are other items in this category.
  • Ammunition, including propellants like gunpowder or blank ammunition; ammunition or cartridge cases; and primers, bullets, or propellant powder designed for any firearm.
Stun gun sales are allowed for U.S. residents, but only if the transaction is permitted by law in both the buyer's and seller's jurisdictions. (PayPal account holders outside the U.S. can’t buy or sell stun guns.) Before they complete a sale, U.S. sellers must make sure that the transaction is legal in both locations.

Related items that you can buy and sell using PayPal include paintball guns, blank guns, and air-soft guns, as long as such transactions are legal in the applicable jurisdiction. All of these items must display the markings required by law, must not be convertible to shoot a lethal projectile, and can’t include blank ammunition.

Its called negotiation, I bet its a lot better than what would have happened without them.

How many letters have you written to your reps this year? One thing they care about is keeping their gravy train going.

It took them 100 years to build a wave. If you think we can break it in 4 years you are just being ignorant. This is a long game. The short sighted ones are the ones who can't see that. Playing dirty makes more enemies than friends.
