Curious to know if anyone has the long action AXMC and have purchased the conversion kit to shoot 6.5cm. Does it work well? How does it shoot? Any problems piercing primers with the lapua small primer pocket?

thanks

I’ve bought 4 barrels for mine from here and from dealers. Never had anyone check my action just plug and shoot. They all shoot lights out.
What calibers did you get and do you have the AXMC in the long action? I've had 2 gunsmith tell me they need to see the action before they can spin me a barrel.

I have a long action AXMC and use it for matches, hunting, and just about everything else. It works great in short action mode and is very reliable. I shoot 6XC, 264 win mag, and the 300 Norma. I would suggest not using cases with small rifle primers, unless you get all your bolts bushed odds are you will have issues. All my barrels were spun up by TS Customs in Miller, SD and they all shoot beyond my expectations. You can get his barrels from Dominic at Brotherhood Arms in Watertown, SD. He usually has most of the popular barrels configurations on hand and ready to ship. If you like the ergonomics of the AI chassis and are OK with a heavy rifle you will not regret it. By the way that 264 win mag barrel was suggested by Travis Stevens at TS Customs and it's becoming my favorite barrel (140 hybrids at 3150 fps in a very mild load). Tons of performance with acceptable recoil. Don't even bother with the 6.5 prc or the 6.5 Saul, you have a long action and you might as well use it.

Good luck with your decision.....

Yes I have it in 300WM for hunting, 308, 6.5 Creed, and 260 rem all for comp shooting. I got the 260 from eurooptic here on the hide and the 300WM from a member here, chambered by Dave Tooley. My 308 and 6.5 from mile high.

You're going to the wrong gunsmiths. Actions are epoxied to the chassis so you will need to send them the whole rifle....

Multiple places to buy pre-fits with no issues for AI's in SA or LA.

Travis Stevens at TS customs had me ship him my AXMC because it was the first time he had chambered barrels for the the larger tenon AXMC rifles and he wanted to double check the head space. That being said, three guys I know got barrels for their AXMC's after that from TS Customs without sending their rifles in and have had zero problems. I believe if you order a barrel from Robert Gradous, he sends you a tool to measure headspace just to be sure. Mile High and Euro Optic don't require anything like that, that I know of.

I can understand if it is the 1st time but then the gunsmith should tell you that. It sounded different.

However, why screw with that when PROOF and a half dozen other smiths do it as a pre-fit which is what the system was designed to do

You don't need gunsmith, just call milehighshooting. They have gunsmiths on site to spin and ship barrel for your AXMC.

Weren't there issues with some not headspacing correctly even though they were spun up by well know smiths? I will try to find the threads but I think they were on scout.

I was really hoping to be able to use small rifle primers because I have lapua brass for the 6.5cm.

I run 300WM, 6.5 Creedmoor, 308, and 243 currently in my AXMC without issue. Flawless function and accuracy. All AINA barrels ordered through Euro Optic and headspace has been good and POI shift is repeatable every time going barrel to barrel.

I have seen different HEADSPACE in the axmc large tennon rifles. If I install a large tennon axmc barrel for you the headspace will be measured by you or me. The rest of A.I. rifles are very consistent.
Are you seeing a difference in headspace between the same bolt (like one 300 is different than the next 300) or just a difference between a 338 bolt compared to 300 bolt?? If I remember correctly there is .006 difference from a 300 to 338 bolt.

FIL has an AXMC with 6.5 conversion. Shoots great, but he was piercing primers with the Lapua small primer brass. Sent all three bolts back to MHSA to have them bushed and he no longer has the issue. Amazing rifle.

I put this in the wrong thread.

Has anyone had any issues running 300NM in the AXMC with one of the aftermarket barrels? Barrels available to us here are the Win Tactical barrels

Even if you have a long action you still need a short action boltface to shoot 6.5cm. Which means it’s the standard 308 bolt. If it’s the post 2014 or whenever they switched firing pin sizes then you’ll be fine. You’ll still be fine in my opinion with a regular size pin with small primer Lapua. I have a s/a AXMC in 6.5 cm and just got rid of an AE MKIII that was 6.5cm. I switched to small primer Lapua when it came out last year when it came out and have never had an issue with piercing primers and I run some hot loads. Haven’t pierced one yet.

You’ll be fine
