More accurately, a journalist was reporting on a non-official, non-recorded conversation with the pope and the Vatican issued a reply saying that the statements cannot be taken as official recorded statements. (They carefully didn't specifically say it wasn't what he said)

This is however not the first time the current pope has said such things, so it is a pretty good chance it is what he said but is not going to be put into "official" teachings since it is kind of the opposite of what is already there.
