Ok, I've been trying to figure out just what stock to put on the 7MM I picked up here a bit ago. Been considering either one of the old model AICS 1.5 or 2.0 folder (don't care for the new version), Manners, and McMillan. I figured depending on which way I go I'd be dumping $800-$1200, which is fucking crazy. So I was talking with a couple of friends on here from Court, one of which was kind enough to offer up a beautiful Manners I'd own in a second, and then this one came up.

I'm thinking the Olive Web would be nice. For the money, $200, how could ya go wrong?

So hook a Brother up and lemme know what the down side, if any, would be that ya know of. It sounds to me they're built pretty damn stout.

One major issue I see......they don’t make’m for Sako? Are you concerned about an integral cheek riser? Thinking about one for my 300 ultra for that money and install an after market?

No downside if you like it and it shoots well...

I still have one of the "Choate" Plaster 'Ultimate Sniper' stocks on my 700 Varmint. It is neither. But it took a rifle that could never hold point of aim and turned it into a laser. I've thought about changing it to something more modern. But why? Other than the fact that it is a brick of a stock. And makes me look all "ARF-Com" when I shoot it....

    It shoots.

    Needs nothing more!

    Cheers,

    Sirhr

And you know I'm becoming a Sako fanboy. (y)
That's why I was really leaning towards the T4A for the adjustable riser. I think I'm gonna try one of these. If it doesn't float my boat it can find a home on another gun that could use an upgrade. They're suppose to be pretty stout. We'll see in short order I suppose.

    Hi,

O shit...you could have sold it to paparock last month and at least tripled your money but @1J04 was not very welcoming to him and he sorta kinda lost the last french fry to his happy meal and fell into a hole he could not get out of.

    Sincerely,
    Theis

Glad I talked you into being my test mule.
I'm hoping they are decent and then I can put one on that shorty 308.:p

Just got the email it's on the way from FloRida. (y):ROFLMAO:
My pleasure my friend. We'll find out shortly what the quality is. Gotta bout another hour left on the bench then I better get the Jewell installed. ;)

Uhm, it's here. And it's better than I thought. The new boom stick is ready to go. I did have to shim the bottom metal. Screws to long. Floor plate won't latch if ya drop it. Gonna have to grind my screws down a bit. But it's gonna live as a single fed gun anyhow so no biggy.

That looks awesome amigo! Not sure I understand....the mag’s not gonna work?

I got the Oberndorf bottom metal. It's a bit beefier than oem. But still the action screws are to long. Cranked down to 55 inch lbs the front/forward screw actually passes thru the action and pinches the bolt. So I shimmed it with 2 washers and fixed that but the floor plate will not snap shut after opening it. So something is off but the screws certainly need to be ground or just cut down.
Regardless, with or without the shims the floor plate fails to close.

Hmmmm........I think a call to Stocky’s might be in order to ask for a solution on how to fix that. It doesn’t get any more common than a 700 action so I have to believe they have an answer. Single feed is better than sitting on the shelf but that’s not what you paid for. Your our test mule dammit and this shit needs to work??? Let me know if you need me to call If you loose your shit and tell them what you really think? Don’t make me start an epic thread in 5 different forums to fix 1J’s shit????

U got to shim front and back equal height so fp stays flat as intended, to get the "twist/flex torque" (for lack of better word) out of it. Get it back flat as it was meant to be. But, always beware of shimming a fp, detach mag feed/fp can be dropped too low to pick up a round.
Best bet, cut screws to fit....
    I wager that will fix....

I hear you and thank you for the input. I only have 2 washers rigjt now and town is outta the question right now as well. It needs the 2 up front to keep from piching the nolt thru the action. If I had 2 more I'd toss'm on the tang end, but no can do just yet. But I will try or just go grind the forward one down. But right now I'm chomping at the bit to pew. Maybe later today after it gets to hot. I'll report back. And I understand on the feeding issue. Thx for that as well. Been down this road before but never had the long screw issue. Well that's not 100% true. They called me either Lsrry the Legend or Larry Peso for a reason. :ROFLMAO:
    Thx again!

Settle down big guy......no reason to get your hopes up :ROFLMAO:

I'm in the power electronics industry. Went to meet a customer about power elexs for wind turbines. That part of the country has thousands of them.

Wanted to stop at a couple of different places, but most of them were closed :( We drove up/back, all on the OR side.

Only been through there a few times myself. It is a nice piece of country ain't it? Bridge of the Gods and Multnomah Falls is pretty cool. Even after it burnt.

Well the 57 and 57.5 grains of RL22 with the 180's .020 off turned out to be a shotgun blast. Not pretty at all, but I will say this here and now despite that. This will more than likely end up thee most accurate rifle I own. Something tells me it's gonna be money. It's the only rifle I have with a brake and the Jewell Trigger is simply amazing. Even with a gimpy shoulder I can damn near keep it on target throughout the recoil. What little recoil it has.
I'll address the floor plate issue this week. Tuned up some 210 VLD's for a buddy and his 300WM. I'm done with his gun we picked up off here in Cabela's parking lot. :p Now it's off to tune up the rest of the damn fleet. Then back to me. Me me me.

Not to shabby for a Hide find gun, eh? 5 in the money. He's a happy boy and I'm happy to move on to other loads for other guns. ;)

Do you have your hunting rig load dialed? Or is this new 7 going hunting?

I will be shooting Black Box 155 Amax again this year for deer and speed goat. New rib pain (not a propane related fall) is gonna slow down load development........

Oh ya, my go to hunting 7MM is dialed in with a mild load of 62.5 grains of RL22 with 168 VLD's. Funny thing is the 7MM Hide Build I put together 'likes' the exact same load. Needs to be tweaked a bit to make a boring ragged hole shooter, but it's nothing but seating at this point but I wanna find the high node on it and shoot it there for shits n giggles. I paid $50 bucks shipped for the pulled un-shot Sendero Contour Barrel on it. Sooner it burns up the better. Then I'll put something else on. My priority right now is to get "this" newest 7MM acquisition running 180's so it can come along to this spot where you can see FOREVER.

If I'm gonna spend the day behind my Bino's and Spotter for the most part I'll take my go to hunting rifle and a bulky/heavy bench gun. If I'm going for a walkabout and hitting the timber then it's only the go to hunting rifle. I hate to leave a weapon in the truck if I'm gonna be hours away from it. You never know and I don't wanna have that on the back of my mind while trying to relax and have fun, ya know.

Sorry to hear you're a tad gimpy as well and that it's not serious? Hoping it ain't. What caliber are ya tossing the 155's outta? You told me before your goat gun but my mind is slipping.

My hunting rifle is a Tikka T3 in .308. For hard mtn hunting I run a VX2 2-7. Keeps it light and easily works to 300 yds which is about my max. I can shoot farther and just dont hunting. No need where I am.
Backup is a CTR in a Gamescout from here on the Hide, wears a LRHS.
May swap my T3 to another LRHS I have on the shelf since I will bot be pounding hard after elk this year. Prolly just leave it on. Like that glass for the extra ounces.

Just a stupid trip and fall headed into a stall in the bathroom at work Friday, got my hippy shoes tangled up somehow. Landed on my ribs right below my armpit (about ribs 5-6) on the pipe coming out of the wall above the crapper and broke a couple....... didnt think so until I had a sneezing fit, now that was fun! Not too bad, was still able to go fishing and play some games with the kids. Sleep is a bit of a bugger though. Rolled over onto my right side each night and that woke me Right Up! Makes me laugh now.
I will heal. Just killing my running and working out. And other stuff...... hard to be stud when breathing deep and fast hurts like a mofo.......

My go to 7 is a breeze in the hand. Hardly a monster but not a moutain rifle either. It's good to further I'm willing to kill at. We've been together for a bit. Keeps shooting where ya point it. ;)
So no propane. I'm sorry. :p
On a serious note I'm sorry to hear of your mishap. Some would say it was a shitty deal, but I'm not going there. :ROFLMAO:
Get well soon my friend !

Just a heads up ya deplorable scoundrels. Just got off the phone with Stocky's and this is not an unheard of issue regarding the floor plate issue and the front action screw being to long. Shimming seems to be the answer so they're spotting me a few more. In the meantime, I'm gonna run down, time permitting, to Ace Hardware and pick up a couple washers I think may help. I'm also going to order a couple sets of action screws, who couldn't use some spares?, and get them on the way because I'm gonna cut the one I got off after trying the shims. Even if the shims work I'm gonna cut down the screw and give that a go. Shimming this to correct it ain't giving me the warm fuzzy feeling I'm looking for. We'll see........

Larry, those screws are 1/4×28 and 10x32.
The hardware store should have them in socket head cap screws.
Bring yours with you and buy new ones there.

The last one I had to modify was on a 17 Remington and it was binding the bolt like in your case.
Thread a nut on that bolt and take a grinder to it. Reshape it slowly and then back the nut off and the threads will be just fine.

Also, look into the stock where the action screws go through. Make sure they aren't hitting or rubbing the inside of the bedding block.

I think I've read some of your stuff you wrote for Penthouse in the 70's. You're using some damn fine sexy words there Mr. Casseleton.:LOL::LOL:

    lmfao

On a serious'er note, that's a damn good idea'er. I'll have to see if the local hardware store here in town has'm in stock. We ain't got much selection of nuffin but Fishes n Forest Animals. Might be pushing it on size specific parts. I'll take the guard screws out tonight and bring'm to worky tomorrow. I was just talking to a buddy here at work who said the same thing on the nut on the bolt. Makes good sense to Larry. :giggle:

Thx Mike. We'll getter going before to long. Couple friends were trying to show off last night with their 300WM and the 210 VLD's I put together for both of them. Bragging Bastards. "Let's see ya do this with your new gun Larry". Mother Fuckers. If they ain't careful I just may take the 5R Milspec over there with a box of 168's. After humiliating the hell outta them I can then beat them to death with that heavy son of a bitch. :giggle:
