It seems there is some significantly differing opinions as to how everything went down.
You will also find quite a lot of intelligent people not fans of the government's actions.

Where the government went overboard in it is when they went back to court demanding extra prison time.

Compared to the non punishment that happens when "government" workers let fires get out of control or do all kinds of other things, it got enough people pretty upset. Then there is a lot of corrupt stuff going on in the Federal land management at so many levels.

The Fed went back to enforce the mandatory minimum prison terms that the Hammond family should have received in the first place. I don't know how but I do remember something about the FBI screwing up the court case which allowed the judge to mess up the sentencing. It should have been a slam dunk case.
These guys have been caught time and time again inciting rebellion against the government and could have caused another Ruby Ridge had the FBI not been so passive.
I am not a fan of dangerous people getting off scot free, especially repeat offenders.

WOW! Your take on this specific subject is completely different than mine. I'm not saying that I know everything about the situation nor do I know these people in any way, shape, or form. I've read the reports and also seen some of the documentaries on these guys and I arrived at a completely different perspective. I totally disagreed with the armed takeover of the refuge but thought they really got shafted over the fire issue. I'm from a ranching family so maybe I'm more familiar with controlled burns and some of the issues associated with it. But to have a controlled burn get out of control and burn less than 100 acres of BLM (according to the reports) and be charged with domestic terrorism seems more like government run amok to me. By all means charge them for the lost income or a fine but TERRRORISM, WTF?

The problem there is that then theyll rape the land for all the resources and then sell whats left off to the highest bidders.

Ive visited many of the National Parks and Id like to see them preserved for posterity.

Well I meant it in the way that the FBI and Fed types are itching to use force against the citizenry. Kind of like getting swatted. I don't mean to defend the FBI in the Ruby Ridge situation, there were a few of parallels between the two situations.

Srikaleak - you’re entitled to your own opinions, but you may want to read more about the Hammonds than just the Wiki; and then maybe you’d want to actually speak to some folks that deal with Gov in such a capacity. It isn’t quite like some outlets have reported.

Secondly, while you won’t likely believe or accept this at this point - lands like the Hammonds land contain uranium. Such lands became increasing important in the wake of Megatons to Mega Watts / UraniumOne / the Iran deal.

Late to the thread, sorry.
I agree as long as there is a provision that the first time they "need more" for the budget or for the looming state pension fuckup that's coming they can't just arbitrarily sell the land. A whole bunch of state farmland was sold or is being sold in my home state (land from prison farms)and the proceeds are to go to the general fund. So that money will get pissed away.

Supposedly it was camouflaged under a plan to save some rare tortoise or whatever.

Constitutionally the federal government has no standing to bring charges against anybody for burning land, the federal govrnment is Constitutionally prohibited from owning land. So yes you are one stupid fucktard.

Once a territory becomes a state the feds have no claim on any land in that state except as prescribed. Certainly not any forests, parks, range land etc etc, that should belong to a state once the territory becomes as state.

Well sir, you just described a large portion of the government! Are you equally as pissed at the government? I’m not saying I am a fan of the Hammonds or the Bundy’s but I will call stuff out when I don’t see things applied equally. You are calling out one group for wrongdoing and not the other group, the government in this case, that are guilty of much worse things.
