I lightened up my gear a few years ago and perhaps went too light on my front bag.

Its kind of a big pillow, nice and light, excellent for a shot or two but as most of my shooting is bench or prone stationary I find myself every shot or two rotating and fluffing to get my rifle back in NPA......

Any suggestions on options that are not a full 50 pound sand bag but would still allow for a solid base when shooting a full 20-30 round session stationary?

If everything is bench or prone have you thought about an actual rest? I snagged a bald eagle on sale and I have to say, its pretty dang nice to shoot off of something solid and yet pretty adjustable. Even in the back of the truck angling down hill and trying to shoot back up hill I was able to get a comfortable position. But if you dont have to carry it very far then I think its worth it. That or a bipod.

That would be sweet but I want it to fit in the Eberlestock GSII and still be a "soft" good rather than a "hard" pointy thing banging up back, scope and other gear in the bag.

Lots of love for Gamechanger. Seems the waxy canvas would be solid. Unsure if its tall enough for bench while not being ridiculously heavy.

In that case I picked up a large triad wedgie for that as well thinking it would be a good solid rest like in the pic before I went to the benchrest. I opt to just use my bipod instead now. I only really used it with pencil barreled hunting rifles so a bit tough to control but it was always sliding to one side or another.

So whatever you do get make it wide enough. Why not just put a harris on it though?

    Nice rifle!

Had a Triad large wedge I was using as my rear bag but when I decided to lighten the range gear I gave it to someone that would put it to good use.

The consistency of the fill in the Triad is exactly what Im looking for though.

Sent an email to maker of my bag. He does refills. May try to get him to use something more substantial than what he is currently using.

I like the size of my current bag. Just wish it would be more stable, hitting a point of compaction that staying solid through a shooting session.

Not my rifle, just a pic off of triads website but a bag that big filled with sand will be heavy. Is your current fill the little solid beads like triad uses or is it more like the little styrofoam things? Just curious.

Missed one point on your last - bipod use. Love my bipods on guns that mount them but my historical fetish prevents using a bipod on some milsurp clones.

My current bag is a NoName Tactical bag. Probably in need of a refresh. Im thinking the fill is some sort of styrene bead. They are probably compressed.

Owner sent reply email to my inquiry...he is using a new fill. Maybe at $10 and shipping that is the answer.

Wax Canvas Gamechanger is where it's at.

Something you and I can agree on (along with 1911s). If only there was more of this.

That is the bag/material most interesting to me right now. One in the PX recently.

what is its fill density like - solid but forgiving like sand or tad to soft (squish, tad to hard (bounce)?

It's some form of plastic that acts more like sand. Its designed as a front rest.

The squishy foam bags as a front rest but are good for filling up space between elbows and knees.

On topic, I got one of these SAP solo sacks, mainly for use as a rear bag. Works pretty well, but it feels like it should be more full of sand weighing in at 5 lbs

I think I heard of some plastic bead fill thats lighter than sand, maybe airsoft pellets or something.

If you find something like that and then use some ping-pong balls to take up space, you could probably make a hybrid fill that has the right amount of stiffness without too much weight.

A bud of mine bought this

    Lyman Bag Jack

I was skeptical until I tried it. It is pretty sweet. On Amazon it is about $60 including the optional bag which is really an integral part of the system

I think weight is a good thing to a degree.

Im probably too light right now.

Just driving away from the range, good shoot. 33 rounds.

I rolled the bag each shot due to it settling below the target after each shot.

Its advertized as super lightweight and dual role positional/front rest.

Probably less than 2lbs. Double the weight/density its a better front bag but a lesser positional bag.

Ill get the refill but Im reaching the conclusion I need a dedicated front bag for when Im benching while the one I have is good for position and 1-2 shots prone/bench.

Waxed canvas Game Changer probably without the straps is where I will find the best utility.

Try removing a couple of the light fill bags from the pillow and substitute something heavier in the bottom of the pillow. I like the heavier density of the fill in the gamechanger, but it is shorter than the big pillow and I don't think it would be high enough for a front rest the way your rifle is set up.
