I'm starting to delve into the larger platform AR's. I figured to start with the barrel as the first piece and found the Rainiet Ultramatch 6.5 Creedmoor 26 inch barrel seen here:

https://www.rainierarms.com/rainier...r-2-gas-936-gas-block-nib-extension-26/?amp=1

I like the barrel specs but see it says Gen 2 dpms style upper. I started searching for an upper but none of the uppers outright state gen 1 vs gen 2. Could I ask you fine gents to provide some links to some compatible upper receivers and railed forearms. I would appreciate it very much

Gen 2 for the upper means high profile I believe. That's how I've always referred to it and understood it. Tang is taller if I remember correctly.

Anyway I have a Rainier Ultramatch 6.5 Creedmoor in a Aero upper. Runs like a champ and is very accurate.

Weren't the Gen 2 DPMS 6.5CM's modified with a different/lighter bolt, heavier buffer and gas port? I seem to recall it had a lot of improvements specifically for calibers other than .308. I remember this, because I have a DPMS Gen 1 6.5CM, and that thing would not shoot for shit with 140's. With 120's? All day long. But 140's just were out on the ragged edge of timing....

You could be right, I haven't used any of the Gen 1 DPMS rifles. Both my 6.5 & 6mm Creedmoors were built using Aero uppers and lowers. With any Creedmoor I'd suggest an adjustable gas block. Both mine tuned pretty quick. I also used JP SCS buffers. Configuring for H2 got the ejection pattern right at around 4 O Clock. Both the 6.5 and 6 will show primer cratering, so a HP bolt may be in order. I haven't used one on either of mine. I may purchase one at some point to try, but haven't had any issues with the toolcraft or aero yet. Supposedly aero has a smaller firing pin hole but I haven't checked it to be sure.

The Rainier barrel linked is for DPMS GII small frame 308 rifle receivers.

They also make the same one I’m sure for the typical DPMS large frame format receivers. Far as I have read I think the Rainier Ultra Match barrels are pretty good.
