I haven't watched news in weeks other than online Kavanaugh drama. I usually don't even know a storm is in the Gulf until I stop for beer and smokes and see all the maniacs in line for gas filling jugs.

I'm just glad I'm nowhere near there right now, and praying for everyone who is.

I'm at the very tip of that Cape @ 3 O'clock (Cape San Blas). The only good thing is that the house sits about 300 yards back from the ocean (long narrow lot).

Everything from Crawfordville to Fort Walton is essentially less than 10' above sea level. Just to the East of me from Indian Pass to Apalachicola it's basically all swamp AT sea level. A 16' surge is going to make the whole thing ocean. When I see people sandbagging I have to face palm.

It's amazing how many people are staying. My neighbor is staying. Her house was built in the '80s, and we said if it lets go to move into ours. Although, the 30' trek between them during a cat 4 hurricane may as well be 100mi because it'll be total whiteout and vis will be 3".

I went through Georges on St. Thomas in '98. I COULDN'T run, but it convinced me that running is the only hurricane defense plan, period.

In every negative there is an opportunity. Would be a great time to offer a free Hurricane viewing location to the resistance. :)

Hopefully the metal roof was installed correctly. Got the windows boarded up? You’ll probably end up with someone’s boat in your pool... It looks like a great place. I hope it makes it through ok.

You guys will probably get the worst storm surge. We're expected about four feet. We're about 1/4 mile inland and (supposedly) high enough that CAT 5 surge wouldn't hit us.

Gotta you on the prayer list.

There and probably Tyndall. The local TV station is off the air. I saw the anchor stop in mid-sentence, look up and ask, "What was that." Withing 30 seconds the signal was gone and hasn't returned, yet.

What I've seen on the WC so far seems to indicate damage wasn't as severe as expected. Haven't heard anything om Mexico Beach or Tyndall. I know that's little comfort to those who suffered serious loss. Looking for the best organization to make a donation...not the RC.

We got 14' of storm surge. The parking pad under the house is @ 12' (1st floor is @ 19'). All fences gone, the pool full of sand. There is damage to the FSB siding, but it appears everything held. The HVAC platform even survived the wind tunnel between the houses. Today the neighbor is going in to survey. The big unknowns are the pool equipment, the commercial ice machine, and the elevator pump. Theoretically that was all under 1'-2' of water.

I'll know more today, but it survived a direct hit from the third most powerful storm to make US landfall in history. I'm sure what saved it was how fast the storm was moving. I'll bet that in the middle of the storm the neighbor was wishing she had evacuated... My wife begged her to leave, but it works out well for us now that she stayed, or we probably wouldn't know anything till next week.

The Cape San Blas Peninsula is now an island. The road is now sea. The wall at the stump hole failed, and all the houses on the beach there are completely wiped away.

I would not be surprised if make some acquisition moves in the wake of this disaster.

Heard from some buds in South Georgia. Gonna be several tough days for them clearing roads and getting the power back. Said several pecan orchards were just gone. Dont have any pics.

It flattened the 20' sand dunes on the island. Mother nature rebuilt them and Ivan flattened them nine years later. Looks the same as pre-Opal now. Michael was worse than either of those storms. STill waiting to hear from a few friends in the PC/Tyndall area.

Glad it made it ok. You were reading my mind about buying some property. Could see some bargains. I am sure there are folks who don't want to rebuild and will take the insurance check and split.

Lots of trees down here in SE Alabama. Not much structural damage (unless a tree fell on something). Clean up will take a while. The worst part for us is the lack of electricity.

Florida....Mexico Beach, Panam City and Apalachicola got hammered.

Anyone happen to have any lower end rental property available in the PC to Destin vicinity? Preliminary but from what I'm seeing, there's a good chance my nephew lost his house in PC but he hasn't been able to get back in to check or get any word on status. He works in Destin so even further into that area might be options. I suspect rental property for working class folks is going to be in short supply.

Mine took NO interior damage. I guess I’m not going to bitch about $4000 windows, or $30,000 in concrete piers anymore. Seems all I have is fence, landscape, and FSB damage. I took a direct hit and may not even make a claim...

My first update this morning after phone calls. This is from Halsey Beshears

Search and Rescue worked all night, using National Guardsmen and FWC. Every Coastal community has been accessed. FEMA is onsite I was told in some towns, I can’t say where exactly. Emergency services are operating in Port St. Joe and Apalachicola. Right now, DOT and power companies are working to clear the corridors running south of the interstate to the coast. 98 is not even being considered yet. They are simply clearing the way to get the power companies and ambulances that are standing by access to Gulf and Franklin counties.

I-10 East bound is closed from Mile Marker 85 to Mile Marker 160. I-10 west bound is closed from Mile Marker 160 to 123. If you don’t know what that means it’s basically 39 miles west of Tallahassee off the Thomasville Exit the interstate is closed.
I can only assume hwy 20 west bound from Tallahassee is closed and 98 west of Crawfordville is closed. They are asking to stay off of those roads for the next 24 hours.

Power outages in Tallahassee and counties west are too extensive to list.
Limited cell coverage in Gulf county I know. Unsure about Franklin.
No word on Calhoun or Liberty county right now. I know they took a serious hit as well.

These are the basics right now.

Too anyone that sees this out there without much access, please hang in there. Help is coming.​

Just went lights out here. The center is blowing by us now. The rain gauge was full hours ago. I'm guessing 10 inches or more by now. The pond is running out the spillway. 70 mph gusts. House is sound for now. No trees down that I can see but it's flat nasty out there.

The downside of having a spouse who works at the power company is driving through some sketchy shit last night at 11 to pick her up from work. Around two roadblocks, out of the road to dodge trees, and slipped under one hefty oak suspended by power lines across the highway. Repeated at 5:15 this morning. Same route. Same obstacles.
One guy was off the road just before the first block and flagged me down - "You can't go that way. They have it blocked. I can't find a way to get to work."
Me - 'Follow me. I'll show you a way'

The upside - power back two hours after the crews were back out in the field this morning. :cool:

She was there and needed to get home last night. I knew the roads were bad and I ventured out to assess them. First route got me within a half mile of the place only to have a hard stop because of a 50 foot wide raging torrent across the road. Couldn't see bottom and wasn't going to look for it with my life. I know that just off the shoulder there is a 10 ft drop into a big ravine.
Calculated risks. I knew the power off everywhere and I knew the crews were already sent home, so the only risk with that tree hanging was that if it was to decide to stop hanging while I was under it.
The worst of the winds were done by then, so I hauled ass under it and cleared it as quickly as possible. It was still hanging this morning, again, before the crews were back out.
I thought about telling others who were turning around and going back, but then I considered liability and decided to let them find their own ways.

In Panama City today. Didn't make it to the east side of town, but if Tyndall and Mexico Beach are worse, based on what I saw those people are really hurtin'. All I could do was shake my head and think how blessed my wife and I are. Just 60 miles makes a lifetime of difference.

Now the Gypsy Builders arrive to rob and harm these people who already have been harmed. Believe it or not dealing with the storm was the easy part now they all need to navigate through a lot of not nice people to get their lives back to normal.

Todays news reports are saying rescue teams are starting to find bodies in and around Mexico Beach. No further info on that, but, we know of several people who haven't been located yet.

No, I’m all the way South on the cape. Mexico Beach is two towns North of me. It’s about 30 min away. We got pummeled, but no interior damage.

Utility trucks lined up on 30A.
