Rifle Scopes Help me decide.... NF - Kahles - Minox

Looking forward to it but waiting is gonna be hard. If a good 5 x 25 pops up. Lol. Thx

This is going to be a tough write up. Just finished zero’ing kahles and it’s very nice.

Short version, mainly going to come down to reticle preference, after that, ergonomics.

I’ll work on writing some this weekend, but have two matches. Might be Monday before I get it all written

6.5 Creed Chassis gun - mostly hitting steel and occasional local PRS style competition...

Looking at three :
NF ATACR 5-25 F1 Mil C
KAHLES 5-25 SKMR3
Minox ZP5 TAC 5-25 MR4

I'm aware of the CA issues will earlier Kahles - it's on my radar to ponder.... But is it a deal breaker ? Will the CA cause eye strain for a day at the range ?

Thoughts on the NF / Minox when directly compared to the Kahles ?

Thanks

I’m going to base this post off ONLY the three you listed. There are some other options, but here’s my take

None of these optics is “bad” and all the glass is more than enough for anyone to be happy with.

First thing, do you need it to focus closer than 50? If the answer is yes or maybe, of those three your ONLY choice is the Kahles. You’d have to step up to the 7-35 atacr to get a closer parallax/focus. The minox is spec’d to 50 and will get your around 40ish if you start messing with the magnification.

If 50+ is fine, then move onto the reticles. Do you like h59, T3, mil-c, or mil-r? If no, the atacr is out. If you absolutely like one of those, AND 50m focus is fine, then your choice is an atacr.

If you don’t like those reticles, then we move onto the kahles vs minox.

Do you prefer .2 on the vertical, if the answer is an absolute yes, then minox it is.

Don’t care about vertical .2’s? Then move onto the trees.

Do you prefer dots or straight lines on the tree? .2 dots is the minox. Solid lines is the kahles (unless you go msr or skmr1, in which case I can’t help as I don’t use them).

If you like both mr4 and skmr3 reticles equally, then what is more important to you:

Glass or ergonomics?

Glass is a hands down winner for the minox. It beats most every piece of glass out there except TT.

Ergonomics, is ambidextrous parallax and lsw/rsw option important? Or is very, very tactile and tight turrets (in a very good way) with traditional left side parallax and rsw important?

I think if you go down this semi checklist, you’ll basically end up with a line pointing you to the optic out of the three that best suits your needs.

If you’re not sure on these questions and your budget doesn’t allow you to play musical scopes, start checking out as many optics and reticles as you can at matches.

^^^ Some of the best advise I've seen yet Dt, I like how you walk through the steps of decision making, I think I will start formatting some of my responses in this manner because it's so much better than "pick brand X".

Remember those books that used to give you choices, and then tell you what page to go to based on that choice? I stole the idea from them ?
