Hello all, in my introduction I explained about my total lack of gun experience my entire life but recent hunting experience and now the desire to learn more.
In a recent gun magazine they showed a custom gun build with a Surgeon 591 short action.
I wanted to learn more so went to the surgeon website..i noticed they had "single shot" and "repeater"
I guess I understand a single shot to be "pull the bolt, cartridge is loaded, shoot, pull the bolt, shell ejects and another cartridge loaded..shoot..etc"
But I don't understand what a "repeater" is...is that just like a semi-automatic type of thing?
pull the bolt, cartridge loaded, pull the trigger, shoot, pull the trigger, shoot, etc, etc, etc?

As stated above and in my introductory post, i have absolutely no gun experience other than recently picking up a used 270 savage axis and going hunting with friends.
Now I think I'm addicted to learning all I can about guns (especially long range shooting).
So my first question, on this forum, is what's the difference between a 'single shot' and a 'repeater' action.

Thanks in advance.

Single shot is an action that you load a single round into at a time. A repeater is an action that is fed from a magazine.

Hope that helps. Search around the forum, there’s some good info and reading on here.

Stag went over it but I like pictures.

Repeater, notice the bottom is cut out to allow a magazine. Typically used for rifles taken out in the field.

Single Shot, solid bottom. Typically used for Benchrest where you want it as solid as possible.

Awesome. Thanks very much.
After stag's comment i went over to the surgeon site and noticed the difference.

Funny that two days ago, i woulda swore the pictures were identical.
Now the cut out on the bottom sticks out like a sore thumb... hard to miss.

Thanks again.
