Rifle Scopes Swfa ss

Yes. The 5-25 is still an excellent value and tough as nails. Glass is outstanding for the price. It lacks a zero stop and a “modern” reticle. But it a very usable scope.

Thank you. Do u have other recommendations that come with same price point. Comparable to the 5-20 ×50

Is there a 5 to 25 version of the hd? Isnt listed on their website.

Ive been hunting similar scopes in this price range and both swfa which was recommended to me on here and a burris xtr II are at the top of what im looking at for the moment.

Well the Bushnell Gap deal is gone. But there are a plethora of scopes around the $1000 mark. Vortex pst II, Burris XTR, Bushnell, SWFA, Athlon, SIG tango 6, Delta Stryker, it a great time to shop for long range scopes.

Yeah I have been looking at the tango 6. But with the swfa trade in program its tough. I'm also can get sig for discount through distributors but still hard to beat swfa.

The SWFA is no slouch.

But look at the new Athlon Ares ETR. It has more features than the SWFA like zero stop and tree reticle. Right at $1000 as well.

But again. The SWFA 5-25 is tough as a red brick.

Hey bender if i was to twist your arm who would you say wins between burris 5 to 25 xtr 2 or swfa 4 to 20 illum scope?
Burris, just barely. Only because it has a Zero stop and the SCR mil reticle. You can get a Zero stop for the SWFA. But they are not covered by the warranty. But you could just remove the zero stop if you ever needed to send it in. If you don’t get the SCR mil reticle, I would take the SWFA 5-25. I would give the edge to SWFA for glass though. They both track like a train and are boringly reliable. It really is a toss up.

I have a 5-20 and its awesome. I was very very impressed with it. I've been through countless budget scopes for non competition rifles and this is the first one that I'm actually happy with and dont want to sell.
I have had two burris XTR2s (5-25 and 4-20) and would pick this ALL day over those two. I actually sold the 4-20 to pick my SWFA up. I have a 308 that is scopeless at the moment and will be buying another one to glass it. The burris mechanically is a great scope, but the glass on them is SHIT.

The reticle is a simple design, with full and half mil holds, but the diamonds are nice because the give you a .3 and .2 reference point. So that simple .5 becomes a bit more versatile.
The glass at that price point is excellent. The quality of it really doesn't drop off until 16x I would say, which depending on your use is more than you'll need.
SWFA and Leupold are the only manufacturers that come to mind that have the eyepiece focus built correctly. Its not the stupid fast focus design, and its separate from the zoom function (unlike Nightforce). You focus your eyepeice and then you can actually lock it down.

My only complaints with it are the zoom and parallax being stiff, not really a huge deal but without a throw lever you aren't changing the zoom while on the gun, and same goes for the parallax.

Frank did a review and has two videos on the SWFA.

The 5-20 is awesome. The only thing they really need to fix is the stiffness of the parallax.

That and the illumination. I don't know how they could blow that so completely but they sure did. It's only visible at night and then the illumination you can see bleeds so bad it renders the scope useless. When I called SWFA to complain they told me that it's because it's an etched reticle and there's no way to keep an etched reticle from bleeding like that. Seriously, he actually said that! What a load of crap. Don't waste your money on illumination if you're determined to get one of these scopes.

I havent used my illumination yet, even on the lower settings at night it bleeds?

awesome thanks for posting this, i saw he got a hold of a burris xtr aswell in afew videos and used it on a students gun when their scope failed id love his thoughts on that aswell but id assume its almost down to user preference at that point where one might be better to my eye than yours and vise versa checking it out thogh much appreciated.

random tangent... ive been on here again (prob 10-15 years since ive checked this site out) and it has advanced a shit tonne and has a tonne of info and active forum members willing to help, loving it!

Cheers, Jo.

They are all made in Japan. They are LOW optics. The Burris are made in the philippines I think, but they are very well made.

just somthing im wondering when i look at both the scopes, with the zero stop and the size of the optic does the burris have way more adjustment or am i dreaming? 25 mil of adjustment from that video... (i dont speak moa so my brain is shutting down trying to convert that) but the burris claim 90 moa of adjustment in elevation (they dont list it in mils)... usuable adjustment depends on ranges and the base/pic rail i would assume

(sorry still noob)

I think the SWFA has more travel? I forgot, I know they both have enough to get a .308 to 1k on a zero moa rail.

Mils is better imho.

I'll check mine when I get home. It's zeroed on a Savage 223 with a 0MOA rail and I want to say I still have 18mils leftover. I was surprised with it being a 30mm tube.

It can go to 19.4-19.5, but its hard and into some "mush" if you will. So we'll call it 19.
