Rifle Scopes Whats the proper scope placement

What is the proper placement on the rail for the scope rings? Is there a right or wrong placement?

It mostly depends on where the scope needs to be placed so you have good eye relief.

Arguably the most important thing we do is fit our rifles to ourselves so we can shoot more comfortably and effectively. If that's where you need the scope, that's where it needs to go. Simple as that.

I wouldn't worry about ring placement affecting scope integrity with relatively heavy, light recoiling PRS guns. Unless putting the rings where they are causes an issue with scope internals (which isn't likely), torque to spec and call it good.

My rule of thumb is to place them as far apart as possible while maintaining eye relief. On an AR platform, don't place them on the handguard. Also remember to push them forward against the picatinny rail when you torque them down so that they don't move under recoil.

Ok so placement on the rail doesnt matter as long as I get a good eye relief that is the proper placement?

i generally get the eye relief set, then try to put the rings roughly halfway between the turrets and the front/back bells.
