Not having a gun does not mean helplessness. The importance of learning DEFENSIVE ARCHERY

Hi,

Mr. Chen you have a one sided imagination it seems.

You speak of lawless survival situations yet you handicap your character with combat arrows because those bad guns are not allowed......

Would make for nice spinoff comic book story huh???

Sincerely,
Theis

LOL it would actually be quite common in China during those times. I did a lot of historical background research just to get that portion right. Bows have been ingrained into Chinese culture and during the turmoil of the 20th century, firearms and bows were used side by side.

A traveler riding through the vermin infested Xinjiang badlands during this time would carry a bow and quiver along with a rifle or handgun. Bows are just that ingrained in Chinese culture. One of the reasons why I started this thread is that I wanted to see how bows as modern combat weaponry sits in the US and the western world.

This thread needs zombies

Dang! My guess was you enjoy ridicule.

You guys are all cool as heck man!

I had put the topic on the open table for full on discussion and debate, to get an opinion from every corner of the hive.

I was literally raised on archery and I am also a full time gunnie. As a martial art and form of discipline-building activity, it is superb.

Have you ever been shot at? Did you find yourself wishing you had a bow? How about an accordion?

No but have been accosted/sized up a few times. Two times I had to draw my CCW pistol to back up my not-too-pleased objections but that was as far as it went.

A bow? Yeah plenty of times. Whenever I see pork or poultry at the market I find myself thinking about when I am going to hunt again. I like my food free-range harvested when possible.

This thread is about the most hilarious one I've been reading since I joined Sniper Hide back in the 18th century.

LOL

The douche-nozzle who started it (and I say that with all due love and respect) has been watching way too much "Walking Dead" episodes.

:)

High praise from the Ham-dwarf, indeed.

I did longbow archery as a kid, my dad wouldn't let me have guns yet so go figure. Arrows will easily defeat most body armor, it's essentially the difference between someone throwing a rock at you and someone throwing a knife at you. Seriously, throw rocks at a pillow/hunk of meat with all your strength and see how much damage it does, then drop a sharp knife on it from shoulder height and you'll see what I mean. In medieval times the bolt thrower crossbow was basically the king of the battlefield, it could punch through any worn armor and it was reasonably accurate. To this day it makes bullets look like nerf darts when it comes to outright lethality.

But can it center punch you between the eyes from hundreds of yards away from cover.
What body armor?

Hi,

You CANNOT pull your .45 to quiet down a drunk!! Either your life was in danger or it wasn't...there is no middle area in that!!!

You really need to get back to an audience that understands you....such as this guest post piece you did.

To the officers that responded and hauled the dude off to jail, following me back to my friend's car, breaking the glass with a pipe and then reaching in and trying to grab us was enough to warrant the threat display.

Good old Orlando on weekends nights are always fun and a bit...interesting  But I am one of those folks who prefer to always "have it and not need it" as opposed to the opposite. Even the most unruly drunks tend to quiet down real quick when they see a .45 being pulled out.
I see were your coming from blue. It’s good to be prepared. It’s better to have options though. As you can tell from some of the comments most people on here can’t imagine a life without firearms. I used to practice a sling when I was young because it was easy to make, small, accurate, and it took down Goliath. Bows are simple but not easy to make until you understand what you need. You can’t just grab any branch and shoestring. When I first got to my unit I got hazed a lot because I didn’t yet have combat experience.. but now I see you getting hazed the same way. I suspect at least half the people hazing you haven’t been to war yet either.. some good ideas are better kept to yourself. Read up on Osage orange trees though. It’s the only American bow wood. Support America even if it’s not supporting you.

Thanks man

Life is not supposed to be fair. As my Grand Uncle always says, "You want to be a man, well you got to be seasoned first". Even a 1911 needs to be broken in before it becomes a natural shooter.

I think that a lot of people in the USA take it for granted that gun laws here are lax compared to other parts of the world. In A lot of these parts of the world, bad shit is happening, and I wondered how many people wish they had a gun or some other type of projection weapon to either defend themselves against criminal scum or take back their basic fundamental rights. Which is why I ALWAYS stress to learn everything and anything there is to learn about combat if you are serious about the subject. We are lucky to have a 2nd Amendment. In most places of the world and even some areas in the US you just can't say "hurrrr! I got my AR!"

If you can’t own a gun legally.... own a gun illegally.

You’re not fucking Robin Hood...if your life is worth defending, defend it with the best technology available... there’s a reason Indians ditched bows when they had access to guns.

The intruder coming into your house is going to stab the fuck out of you before you have a chance to draw a bow..... and unless you live in a fucking castle, you’re only gonna have 1 shot

Indians ditched guns cause their bows went out of tune and there was a backlog at the bow shop. Others simply chose to shoot early bowtech prototypes and well you know how that turned out.....trail of tears. (Glass in eye from shattered limbs)

I can't believe that nobody's touched on the fact that you can screw a thermite grenade onto the end of an arrow, and take out tanks and russians and shit. Just like that documentary where Rambo did. I seen it!

:)

You’re not kidding I started doing that but had to quit. The ones I made up wouldn’t whistle. so I had to buy a whistle from Walmart and my wife got pissed because cause the neighborhood dogs were attracted to the whistle and would come into the yard. There was a big mean one and I put on my overdraw rest and subsequently shot myself in the hand.

Oh god now were talking about BudK knives and LVL3 armor piercing arrows.......someone find me when Gecko45 gets here.
*tap* *tap* *tap* ... um, Cam? He's here.
Um, I'm beginning to think that "he's" a "she", which makes it a "that" no?

I don't know many/any men at all, that stand their ground and stamp their little feet to this extent. Hollerin' like Jethro "You can't make me, you can't MAKE me!"
