Surgeon Prefits?

A buddy of mine tried an Impact prefit on his Surgeon action and the headspace was perfect, so I tried the same thing on one of my Surgeons and the headspace was also fine. Has anyone else done this with success?

People always said they were similar designs. Not sure anyone thought they would be THAT similar.

Depends when the actions were made. Newer Surgeons (post 2014) seem to be fine. Earlier 591's were not that consistent.

Is there a reference chart for dating Surgeon 591 serial numbers ?

I can tell you that I have (3) Surgeon 591R actions, two of them built into complete rifles still up and running flawlessly to this day and one bare action that is sitting in my safe. I am happy to PM you the sequential serial numbers I have, which are from December 2014, when I took delivery of them, if that helps. I am not willing to post serial numbers online in a public forum.

That’s good to know. I’m sure it’d probably work on mine, just got it early last year. Wish I had known about Impact actions back then I would love to have gotten one of those. No complaints with my Surgeon though it’s an awesome action.
