I don't understand the problem with asylum seekers. That really constitutes a smaller percentage, right? And those immigrants tend to work hard, just looking for a better life. They go through all the processes too. A lot of asylum seekers are people that helped us in these wars and are now being persecuted for it. Like the Hmong. Nobody has a problem with them, right? Or the Kurds that helped us time and again. Translators in Iraq and Afghanistan. We kind of owe it them IMO.
Temporary asylum for people caught up in a war where the go home afterwards is also okay. Most of those people WANT to go home, just a soon as it calms down. Like in Syria. I bet there's a lot of people that want to leave, but go back once it's over.
Leaving Mexico because it's a shit country, well, you need to go back home and unfuck it. That's no asylum.
Other countries accept asylum seekers, but somehow we're held to that plaque on the Statue of Liberty (give us you poor, huddled masses...) and expected to just let everyone in in perpetuity until we have the densest population on the planet. Not all are really asylum seekers, and it'd be best to seek asylum in a neighboring country if possible.
Basically, there's asylum seekers we need to move here, some we need to help until it's safe to go home, and others we need to deny or recommend another nation or nations accept instead. It's a numbers game and it's not hard.
If you come here illegally, you need to be deported, plane and simple, and tagged so if you try to re-enter you get held at Gitmo or some island detention center for a year, fed the basics at your home nation's expense, then deported. Children? Maybe we should adopt some. Maybe they should be deported to immediately to their home nation separate. IMO, the children were abandoned and neglected by taking them across the desert with possibly murderers.
In the end, it's the same as Caesar and the Alysia siege... Instead of letting Mexico, et. al., make those children our problem, we turn it around and make it their problem and deter people from brining children here illegally. Sure it's not fair, but it's not fair to us either. And as long as we let Mexico get away with what it's doing, nothing will change.
Until we do away with political parties, money in politics, etc., nothing will change.
