Hah! Thx. We’re sittin’ in the train station poundin’ ‘em down now. Outbound @ 15:30 to Bellinzona, then back into the Alps. They’ve been getting pounded with new snow. If I can’t get any new shots due to weather, I’ll post some older, beautiful stuff.

How many people remember this speech? I was 15 when he made this speech and remember it played over and over again on the radio.
If you are like me, you can't help but get emotional when you listen to it. Mr. Sinclair ought to be posthumously made an honorary US citizen but that would piss off people like Pelosi, Ocasio-Cortez, Schumer, Shiff and Tlaib.
This speech is just as applicable today as it was 46 years ago.

I was 15 also and remember this too after you jogged my memory. I should google this, but I think outpouring humanitarian aid declined for 8-11 months and resumed with a vengeance. Never did we get any relief.
The only permanent change, and it may not have been immediate, was the restructuring of how the red cross conducted business. Today it would be impossible for them to go broke, and their top officials are in that category also. It went from a top shelf relief organization to almost a farce. Last I read, around 10% of contributions make it to the right place.
I wanted to shake his hand over this, with a hearty Thank you.
I've heard the same thing about the Red Cross.
I read a book that was a collection of letters from a combat medic in Europe during WWII. The medic's wife kept all the letters that he wrote to her when he was in the Army.
In one of the letters he scolds her because she gave $5 to the Red Cross. He went on to explain that they were completely worthless based on his observations. I told my father, who was also in Europe during WWII, about that letter.
My father confirmed the medic's observations and told me how they basically took up space during the war. On the other hand, my father could not say enough good things about the Salvation Army. He told me that he saw them getting as close to the front as possible to pass out mittens and sweaters to our soldiers.
So rather than yard sales, I donate my stuff to the Salvation Army. I gave them my old pickup truck. They auctioned it off in 2017 for $800. I was able to use that $800 as a charitable contribution for my 2017 income tax return.
I was in a organization, at one time, that was involved in disaster relief in my state. I didn't work with the Red Cross but plenty of other folks that I served with also told me how worthless they were.
That is straight up amazing. Pound for pound, that girl is twice as strong as probably any of us. Like an ant.
Salvation Army, Shriners, St. Judes all good.
Even cancer research suspect.
I do not dislike all californians, but loathe the state. I wanted to donate during fires last fall, red cross was the only one that popped up, screw that. Then somehow after fighting fires for 40 days, probably exhausted and hungry, a few clowned around and pics were taken, you most likely know the rest of the story. Next yr I hope FF take the US Forest Service policy and let r burn, all of it.

I spent five years with the Red Cross post retirement. They are pretty much worthless except for collecting money from donors. they put on a good face, but waste money left and right on stupid things. Their management is largely a group of idiots.

A good friend of my Dad's currently works in maintenance at the Red Cross in Madison WI. In the couple years he's been there they've fired half the employees without filling any of the vacant positions. He still hasn't figured out what it is they do there other than cash peoples checks. Most of the workers bees are gone and now it's just the upper management left to sit in meetings all day talking about how to spend money.
Red Cross is a profit making business, like Goodwill Industries. They get blood free, then sell it.
