Shops like PVA, ALTUS (used to be CORE) and others are making shouldered pre-fit barrels for the Bighorn TL3; however, I have a TL2 and curious if any shop makes pre-fits for the TL2?

My understanding is that PVA still does. I also have a TL2, and was told when I purchased it that Josh had the serial to my rifle and could spin up a prefit for me if I gave him a call. I sure hope that's tbe case, as I have a $100 off cert I'm planning to use on most likely a 7SAUM or 7SS. If you don't beat me to it, I'll likely give them a call to confirm. If they don't, that'll be a bummer, but I'm not opposed to shipping the action to them if needed.

Hey Basher, if you ever don't need that $100 cert let me know ;)

I wanted to get a PROOF CF .284 24" with 1:8.4 Twist chambered in 7SAUM, I get more than enough speed with the heavies from my current 26" 1:9 barrel, but some suggest getting a faster twist for the heavier bullets (for better stabilization at distance) so though the 1:8.4 would suffice and wanted to drop to 24" to save a little weight and maneuverability. I'm assuming I should get the 1.20" shank so they can shoulder the barrel or would they be able to shoulder the 1.13" shank as well? I guess I need to just give Josh a call...

You're thinking like I am, although I'll probably aim for a 26" length to get as much velocity out of it as I can. I'm still undecided on the 7SAUM vs 7SS. I don't yet reload, but would need to do so for either. I'd like the possibility to shoot heavies, and I keep hearing the SAUM struggles with the 180 class projectiles. Anyway, that's a discussion for another thread. I'll stay tuned for Josh's reply, as I could use the info myself. I'm not sure if that cert can be used on a Proof chamber job or not, but if not, my AT could use an 18-20" .308 barrel... :)

@5RWill swears by the 7SS, but I have had such great experience with the straight 7SAUM and I have all the brass and reloading gear for it I figure why change. I average in the 2950's with the 180gr pills with no pressure signs, was close to 3000fps with no pressure either but backing off a touch improved my SD's so that's what I stuck with, last time at the range I had a cold bore shot with the Berger 180 Hybrid ring steel at 1000 yards, that had me smiling. Anyway, this rifle is mostly for hunting and long range fun, I don't do any competing so not worried about losing 50-80fps (which is what I figure going from 26" to 24") as I still have more than enough energy to take an Elk at much further than I feel comfortable taking one.

I used to buy direct from PROOF Research but they're big enough now they direct you to their dealers, who's got the best deal on PROOF barrels these days, any Hide dealers offer PROOF CF bbl's?

PS - does PVA or any other shop need your SN from the TL2, or do they just need to know if its a Remington or Savage thread?

FWIW I’m just going off of the results I’ve seen rich and some others post from LRH. I haven’t gotten mine chambered yet. Hell even if i did seems RL26 is the new unicorn powder. Can’t find it anywhere.
