Did anyone else order a barrel from ES-Tactical during the veterans day sale? Have you gotten your barrel yet?

I ordered via that same sale. Nothing yet and no update on the “my account” page of their website.

What chambering/specs did you go with? I'm getting concerned now, it's been 8 weeks and I can no longer get a hold of Eric.
28" 6.5 CM 1:7.5, magnum contour, 5/8x24, no finish. If you requested Cerakote, it will be an additional 2 weeks. However, with how many orders went through, Im sure the lead time on that will increase as well. He advertises 3 weeks, mine was just under 6 weeks, so with the Cerakote and/or uncommon calibers, my guess it could take up to 10 weeks. Which honestly, a lot of barrel makers advertise anywhere between 2-6 months, I waited 6 months for my barrel from SAC.

Thats one of the drawbacks to ordering products during holiday sales, especially made to order products. Best bet is to forget about it and be surprised when it shows up, similar to a suppressor.

Also I didnt get an update on the site until it shipped.

Been through this with him a few years ago, he does great work but I have since moved on to other smiths. All I ask for is a little bit of communication, and now only deal with people who are on the same page.

Just playing the devils advocate, I had almost no communication from Mark at SAC when my barrel was made. The only communication was during the initial process determining the barrel specs , then the shipping confirmation, it was the same with Eric, although I had made my order and changed the contour a few days later. What other communication is needed from reputable smiths? New smiths or shady smiths with bad history? Sure, I'd prefer weekly updates, but why deal with those people in the first place.
Maybe I'm just inexperienced in dealing with dealers or smiths that fall vastly behind their advertised completion time.

My build with him went several weeks over what was quoted, which with communication I am fine with but alas not a peep and would not answer calls or messages. The last few DTA barrels I had built by FireguyTy when he was still doing them, two showed up as quoted, one was behind schedule but he notified me before it ever went past the quoted delivery time frame that it would be late. I have had builds done by two different local smiths whom had great comm’s. Most recently I had a FIX barrel and an AI barrrel done by Dave Tooley, again communication was a none issue even with running into problems with the FIX barrel.
I am not a guy whom expects play by play updates from the gun smith but when I shell out my hard earned cash I do expect to in the loop if problems with delivery come up.

I recieved a barrel from Eric not too long ago. It was a custom contour and took 8 or 9 weeks if I remember correctly. Pretty damn good since others quote 6 month lead times for a custom contour. I'm going to take a guess and say that he had a large number of orders on that sale so he might not have had enough barrels in stock to fill all the orders.

I'm willing to wait for his barrels because he does good work and the prices are more inline with what a traditional type barrel costs plus the price of an extension. I ordered a barrel last night from him so I will be ready to play this spring.

@Kopfjager1

What’s the muzzle diameter on the magnum contour? That profile does not have a link to the print in his site.
Im not currently home, so I cant give you the measurements, however, Id imagine it would be around 0.95" considering its slightly heavier than a Heavy Palma.

What has me concerned is not the wait (I'm at 8 weeks now), but when I did get a hold of him, he said it was to be finished the 13th or 14th and shipped the week of the 17th (dec.). That's the latest info I've gotten.

DMR Rifles did all of FireguyTy’s barrels. Just FYI.
I’m sure Eric @ ES will get caught up. Bummer there isn’t more communication but I don’t think you’ll end up out anything. Anytime there is a sale it’s going to put a small business behind.

On a lighter note, I contacted DT and got a replacement safety switch. I have an earlier A1 with a flat switch and it was harder to engage with gloves on. My ol Gen 1 had a different switch, and it worked much better. I had my credit card out, but they didn’t charge me a dime, even shipped it at no charge! It’s been a while since I’ve had the skins off, so time for a deep cleaning. The safety switch slides right out, so it’s a 5 second replacement process.
If you’re wondering what all the green painters tape is for, it’s my attempt at not losing any nuts or screws, and to make sure the different size screws go back in the right hole.

Hello,
I have an HTI being put together by Eric. I have 100's of hours researching as to the platform, optics and reloading that I believe will fit my intended purpose as a low level novice.

Eric has taken time out of his day to help me with my questions. That means he was not working on someone's rifle.
Thank you guys.

I chose him after looking deeply into his business model, style of participation and most of all your respect and appreciation reflected here on the forum.

Being a business owner I deal with a full spectrum of personalities daily. So I understand where he is coming from in his efforts during this off season. He is deep into making this work. When I'm busy my people know my head is to the grindstone. I have confidence in his leap for the brass ring when DTA slammed the prices down. He has set himself up for this move, albeit tough, He'll pull it off.

Fortunately this is a hobby for me and I don't have competitions to get a new rifle ready for.

Thank you again Snipershide for letting me be a part of something so good, you have given something to last a lifetime.

I'll be calling him in the morning to tell him to let mine sit while he gets the rifles out to you guys that really need them.

Adam

I ordered via that same sale. Nothing yet and no update on the “my account” page of their website.
Received an email from Eric today. High order volume, a machine going down, and an issue with their cerekote provider led to the delay in receiving my barrel. Message also came with an apology for lack of communication and delay. I am satisfied with the explanation, appreciate the contact, and am looking forward to my new conversion!!!

I’m glad you got some info as I was just about to state the same info.
I have have three barrels from Eric and two of those were during the holiday sale a year ago. Yes they took longer than his normal time frame but that should be expected during the holiday madness and promotion. Maybe it should be stated ahead of time. Keep in mind he does a ton of other rifle platforms as well and even complete custom jobs. He will get you taken care of and I would personally rather him spend his time working on getting barrels out the door rather than answering emails. It’s no excuse but that just what I would rather. My other barrel he made for me was well within the advertised timeframe and even a week earlier. This was in the middle of the year a few months before hunting season. Like I said; I’m glad you hear back from him and are content now. You will be very happy with the final product.

I shot both of these today. 100 yards no scope change .308 44.5 gr Varget left one 168 A-Max and the right one is 155 SMK brass is Desert Tech that has been reloaded 8 times +. The barrel came from ES Tactical 22.5" 1-10 LH twist round count 755. Also I run Thunder Beast Ultra 9. The barrel is worth t he wait.

Of you guys need barrels with a quick turn around and excellent performance look no further than DMR Rifles! Hands down the man.

Also, good communication is key, all part of customer service , a simple text goes a long ways!

I have a bunch of DT brass....was wondering if it's good for reloading. Seems to be working for you.

Yes sir it has been very good brass. I like Lapua brass but I have found this to be a great substitute. I will order 400 rounds of DST 175 ammo and then after I get down to about 100 I reorder. I check the primer pockets and they are still in good shape after 10 + rounds. I haven't gotten a annealer yet so I do that with a propane tank and drill holding it it the flame for about 8-10 seconds. I do that about every 3 reloading. I try to train every week and so I do alot of reloading.

I also tried to buy just the brass from DT but they don't sell just the brass. I don't know who makes it for them but I would like to know if anyone knows. For .308 and now I am looking at getting a 6.5 barrel.

This is the truth. Dane did my 6.5CM barrel and I only shoot factory ammo of it. I still have less than 100 rounds through, and no longer shoot for groups (mainly practicing different barricade and tripod shots), and it is sickly accurate.

This is one of the target acquisition drills under time:

This was from factory ammo testing. It really like Hornady black and Norma Match (sub .5 MOA is more common than not with these) . Not as good w/ hornady match nor FGMM (.75-1 MOA).

The one on the right was off a barricade kneeling and the left one was standing off a tripod:

Is that the one that is supposed to be capable of .17 HMR to .50 cal and replace the HTI as well?

I was joking. I have heard it will have a lighter mlok forend, though. Don't know if there is any truth to that. But, looking forward to finding out!

I am about to attempt to swap my A1 hand guard to a covert. I have the tool to remove and reinstall but I have heard it can be very thought to break loose. Do I need to take the skins off before I attempt this? I have custom Ceracote job and a little weary of putting a torch to it?
Just looking for some advise.
If you didn't get this done already it really depends on the vice setup you have, make sure you have good clamping area on the receiver preferably in the area near the 4 barrel retention screws. For example our vices here are bolted directly to the table with no elevation, so we have to remove most components to do forearm swaps.
Just make sure you put some good force against the back of the ratchet so your tool stays interlocked with the coupler. Let us know if you have any other concerns or problems.

Hard to argue with a Razor Gen 2. All around great performer at great prices. Use the savings for a few cases of ammo.

Thanks for the info. I have not attempted yet, but I did get some good info from Ryan at DT. He said I should pull the skins and just warm up the chassis enough to expand the the aluminum and it loosen up.

Focus mostly on heating the forearm to release the loctite, there is no loctite on the receiver side(for guns newer than 2015).

I missed the Live event. Will it be posted somewhere so I can watch it?
On their Facebook page.

Looks like solid upgrades, but nothing I want to sell my A1 for. I am curious about the new trigger - I noticed they kept saying "creep" when they were describing it. That would be non-starter for me, I can't stand any creep.

The new clamping system looks nice, I'm impressed by the 36% increased accuracy - but then again, a 36% decrease on the already tiny groups the srs is hard to measure haha.

Nice to see the muzzle threads fitting the cartridge. That's the only reason I didn't buy a factory dt barrel.

On their Facebook page.
.

Duh, thanks for pointing that out.
I see they did away with the 260 and 7WSM barrels, sticking with 6.5 Creed, 308, 300 WM, 338 Lapua. That’s probably better for them, since those are the higher volume barrels and there are so many great custom options out there.
I’d like to get my hands on a A2 Covert, but only to see how the new bolt throw is like. I’ve had to run my A1 a lot to get the bolt(s) from binding slightly while cycling.
Still excited about SAC’s magazine mod he’s working on. If DT smooths out the bolt and SAC fixes the magazine, that make a great rifle that much better.
Great move to lower the price on the HTI, but I’d be pissed if I bought an HTI sometime in the past 6 months!!

Wonder if the new A2 bolt will be available and work in the A1

Someone check my math. I shoot .308 and am consistently at .500 or better. So a 36% increase in accuracy of .500 is.180 that should be .320 correct?

The math is correct... though I didn't hear anything in the video about increased accuracy. I heard the 36% reduction in force required for bolt throw and the fluted barrel won't effect accuracy, but nothing about increased accuracy.

Did I miss it (time stamp)?

Edit: never mind I found it just after the 8min mark.

Time stamp 8:20 to 8:40.

But, did they use the same bolt with that barrel as they were swapping? I assume they were using DTM ammo.

Valid questions. I too would assume DTM.

I don't doubt that less stress on clamping surfaces could potentially lead to accuracy gains. Expecting a specific amount every time with all the variables potentially at play between individual bolts, barrels and chassis systems seems highly dubious at best.

Yes, it was anicidotal at best. My point was, due to the inherent accuracy, my good groups are good enough that even if that 36% increase was statistically significant, the measurable gain is negligible.

Vid won’t play for me. Did they say the new bolts and barrels will be compatible with current and older A1’s and Coverts?
