Does anyone shoot a psl 54

Ive got a 20 inch and a 23 inch vepr in 54r. They are more accurate than the psl since they have a heavier receiver and barrel. They take single stack mags though. Mine shot 2 moa and under with Russian surplus. I havent done any reloading for them yet to increase accuracy. I got into shooting large frame ar's. Meanwhile my Russian guns/ammo are appreciating in value.

My older stepped brother (estranged father's step son) pawned his a few years back, and when he realized he wasnt going to pay it back I said I would and I'd keep it. Picked up the rifle with scope, 3 mags, a half spam can of ammo and a case for $350 in 2014.

Hunted with it for a little while, but it was too bulky too get in and out of my apartment. Didn't really group that well, but I was expecting that.

The parents ended up finding out about it and I received a few demanding texts about getting it returned to them asap, "they wanted to make sure it stayed in the family" The dude pawned it, clearly that wasnt a concern. They paid for the new ffl transfer for it to go to "dad".

Dumped that shit off knowing I could've been a real ass and sold it for an easy $800-$1000 then.

Damn. After typing that I kind of want one again now....lol

That's too bad, I would never let anyone bully me into selling it back, if I really wanted to keep it.

I agree with Mach U. I wouldn't have been bullied into selling it back. Especially after he lost it in a pawn. As far as I would be concerned, you bought what he used to have, so you don't owe it to him. Now, if it didn't kill you to sell it, and it meant a reward down the road, like continuous harmony with family, then maybe not so bad to have sold it back to him.

On the flip side, I find a lot of the semi-autos are kind of like that to me. Too bulky to hunt with and then you need to find five round mags to be legal. Then there's feeding it. I like accuracy over all. The AR-15 is a good platform for that. But, damn I get to liking to pull the trigger a lot when I have that.

Added: Any of you Minnesota guys shoot up in Princeton? Every third Sunday over the winter they have a 100-500 yd. fun shoot. Cost was $20 and included lunch. The money was jack-potted back to the individual and team winners.

I used to have one. Bought it when they were just below $1k and sold it when they were just above $1k to fund an AR. Even though it was a 1.5 MOA rifle one day and a 4 MOA rifle the other 6 days a week I still miss it.

Just make sure you use lighter weight bullets...seems that the PSL likes the 148gr range and the heavier projectiles do not shoot well in these rifles.

I did a lot of research on the PSL and really wanted one, but in the end I decided against it since I wanted something more precise and more than a 10rd mag.

The poster above brings up great points about the PSL. My friend has one and he also stated that once the barrel heats up 30rds fired quickly...the accuracy drops, which makes sense since the barrel is very thin on the PSL.

I think for the price the PSL is a good bargain...I haven't seen them as low as $400, but that's a great price.

The PSL balances well and I was surprised how light it was considering the length of this rifle.

At the time, I was trying to get the relationship to work. Now, I could give a shit less. To little time in life to let toxic people drag me down.
You are both right, I shouldn't have let it go, and damn sure shouldn't have let them bully me into it. 20 y/o me was much more impressionable than now.

I Understand. When things get going for you financially, then you can decide if you want a PSL bad enough again. There are some rifles I've let go. Then the chance came along to get one again, and they didn't seem all that much fun anymore.

I shoot my original 4x Russian rangefinder scoped PSL beast ocasionally...though it seems to be a bit touchy on firing hand grip locations. Once the barrel & receiver heats up --- it'll tend to vertical string.

I don't shoot mine "regularly" but I do really enjoy shooting it. Mine turned out to be a solid 2 MOA gun and that is acceptable to me. I kept the 4x Illuminated reticle optic on it. Its a real attention grabber at any range that I've been to. Whoever above said they like the lighter ammo is 100% correct. The heavier loads will make the bolt carrier slam into the rear trunion and that's not pleasant.
