So, after my first 6mo or so into the PRS type competition world, I’ve finally settled on my permanent setup/s.

Because of where I live combine with being hard headed, I literally went through most every action, optic, trigger and chassis known to man.

Now that I’ve found what I like, I also found that I like having some irons in the fire or projects going on.

So, I figured a project that could:

    A) help me keep something going at all times

    B) start amassing a collection of rifles instead of so much turnover

    C) give me an inventory of options for loaner rifles for a new shooter/s to try out in an effort to save people the time and money I spent figuring it out.

What I’m going to do is start accumulating one of each of the most popular actions, triggers, chassis, and optics used in PRS.

I’m going to chamber the actions in .308 because

    A) I have a soft spot for .308

    B) low chance of barrel burnout on loaners

And then will have the option to drop them into whatever chassis, trigger, and optic combo someone wants to try. Or myself if I just feel like running something in a non points club match for shits and giggles.

Here is my list of gear I’ll either be purchasing or already have. Let me know if there is something I should add to the list.

Please refrain from something extremely unique, or that isn’t in wide use just yet. This is a lofty/expensive/long term project and I can’t include every single thing.

The optics I will likely only get one reticle, whichever I can find at a good price and I won’t duplicate a reticle.

    Actions:

    Impact
    Defiance Deviant
    Bighorn TL3
    Curtis Vector
    Surgeon
    Lone Peak
    Mausingfield
    AI-AT
    Ruger RPR
    Trued 700

    Chassis:

    MPA comp
    Manners PRS1
    Foundation
    XLR
    J. Allen
    KRG Whiskey 3
    MDT ACC
Cadex Comp(only because I want one)
    AI-AT
    AI-AX/PSR

    Triggers:

    Diamond (flat, curve, pro)
    Bix n Andy TacSport pro
    Jewel HVR
    Huber
    Timney Calvin Elite
    Diamond 2 stage (once available)

    Optics:

    ATACR 7-35 (Mil-C, Mil-XT)
    Vortex Razor G2 (ebr7-c, h59, t3)
    Kahles k525i skmr3
    Schmidt 5-25 (h2cmr, h59, t3)
    Tangent Theta gen3xr
USO B-25 (or their new optic)
    Athlon Cronus
    Leupold mk5
    Vortex Viper PST II
    Athlon Midas Tac

So, what component/s did I miss that can be commonly found at your local or national PRS?

Where is your ZCO on the list? Maybe no common yet, but you already have some of us drooling;)

Maybe just start by sharing with us your personal pro/con of the items as you walked your path.

That would be a long list and full of personal preferences.

The internet gets a bit pissy when you give a reason why you chose x over y.

Be it brand loyalty, or they can’t afford more than what they have and for some reason need to defend that.

I’ll do a write up which gives a timeline and what the evolution looked like.

I will say that all of the above components (well except one or two I haven’t used yet) are excellent in their own right and if they fit the user’s preferences will make outstanding rigs.

I’m also working on a blog site totally dedicated to PRS beginners. But still figuring out how it should look.

    beat me to it...AI.

i actually dont mind the original AI trigger compared to my friends comp trigger.

but seriously ill double check the list and give my non important opinion

that site for beginners is a good idea (PRS and shooters in general), i'd make it so others cannot post.

if not the pissing match will just move from here to that site.... lol

Did you have any favorites/preferred on actions, triggers, etc...? I went the custom Rem700 way, to an AX, and now prefer custom actions...

Right now I’m running my Nucleus/Huber in an MPA comp and it feels like a perfect replacement to my AX.

    It’s too early....

Maybe consider adding some factory actions to the collection? The thinking there would be not everyone interested in shooting PRS has the scratch to invest in custom actions, high dollar stocks, etc...

Maybe an RPR, a Tikka, perhaps a Howa of some sort, and maybe just for shits and giggles, an R700.

I honestly believe that there's no reason why any of the above (customized to the shooter, of course) couldn't be competitive in PRS. I mean, the RPR is more of a fixed configuration than the others, but maybe drop one of them into a KRG Bravo, maybe another one in a Boyd's Pro Varmint, another in a Magpul Hunter, etc... to demonstrate both the capabilities and shortcomings of various options.

    Just food for thought.

If going that route, you would probably pair that with some of the more budget optics? XTR2/3, PST Gen 2, Ares ETR, etc.

I’ll probably add an RPR and a trued 700.

Maybe one of frank’s new rifles.

Gonna piss off some people, but won’t include a Savage. Seen too many go down in matches to consciously recommend them.

Threw in the PST Gen 2 and Midas Tac.

I figure if either of those two interests or somewhat interests them, they have a good idea if they want to go with a more budget friendly optic.

I may throw a KRG bravo in there.

My line of thinking is the manners and foundation would give someone an idea if the traditional style stock would interest them more than a chassis. If so and they are budget minded/restricted, I can steer them in the direction of a bravo.

I included more chassis than traditional because they vary much more from one another.

I’m definitely open to alternative lines of thought though.
