Hooray! The JP Chassis is out!

Interesting. It's JP quality, no doubt.

Looks like a well built chassis. I don't like that they went with a tube for the forend, a wide square bottom I prefer to have stability on bags. Also wish they provided an integrated full length ARCA rail along the bottom of the forend, though I see that's available as an accessory. Although a big pro for a lot of people, I don't like AR grips either.

For that price, I'll take a JAE. Glad more options are coming out though.

They do have an ARCA rail that goes the fill length.

I jest but it does look really nice. For the money the folder lock up better be flawless and the handguard should've included a FL Arca slot.

Not sure what really separates it from an XLR Evolution besides a potentially better folder.
From what I saw and felt. It locked up strong. It’s also reversible left or right

the RRS Dovetail rail goes the entire length, are you blind or ignorant

There is a rail in the pictures ... it blends into the rail section on the chassis

I assume this is directed at me.

I was going off the pictures on the JP site, at the time of typing my post your pictures were not up yet on this thread.

The ARCA on the chassis as is in stock form only extends a few inches in front of the mag well. I now see that there is an add on ARCA that extends the full length of the rail. I've edited my post to reflect that.

Glad they included that at least as an option, great accessory.

no the other guy said the handguard should have a FL ARCA Rail

and just an FYI, we use Really Right Stuff Tripods, that means it's a Really Right Stuff Dovetail, the Arca Swiss Spec is different from what Really Right Stuff uses, yes they interchange to a certain degree, but there is a difference between RRS Dovetail and Arca Swiss

Looks like a hell of a nice chassis and of course JP quality.
Not sure what all the fuss is about the price when I see so many $3500-$4000 scopes floating around and $7500 AI rifles.
It looks like an AI chassis to me with some of the improvements people have been throwing around and asking for like an AR grip interface.
Just my opinion FWIW

IMO the ax chassis isn't worth $1700 either but I'm sure there will be plenty of people willing to pay double what a loaded XLR goes for to have the JP name.

All the accessories are proprietary of course, so you're signing up for a closed ecosystem of accessories. No thanks, maybe at $1200 if you were going to hang your hat on the "it's JP quality" hook but another $500 over? ?

Looks nice, I'm sure it is nice, but I'll spend the extra $900 on a barrel.

If you broke it down realistically a folding rear stock is $250 or so...and a hand guard is $250 or so...and the central chassis part which is about as complicated as an ar10 lower.

Put it all together and it seems a bit steep honestly...

I would bet part of the problem is that Jp makes the best AR10 ImHO. Tons of innovative features and the finest workmanship on a bunch of stuff that’s hard to get right like barrels and bolts and such.

And in chassis land you have about 100 competitors some of which are extremely excellent like KRG and JAE and and and and and. And about 2 chances to innovate sum total.

We are gonna see if $1700 “because we can” is going to work this time for JP

I suppose I am right with the guy that said i wish i wish except i need to invest in a drool cup seeing all these pics that people post on this forum of their pretty guns . they all look just so nice .

I like the handguard as it is, it's solid with no flex and works well on existing JP Rifles

It's consistent in terms of being recognizable as far as JP goes.

There is a lot of work in this chassis and it's not quite the same for all of them, different types of radius and cuts can be separated from the group which is why you see such a spread in pricing.

These chassis are not all equal because they are made of aluminum, the cost of a chassis can vary from a few hundred dollars to $3000+ for just the chassis.

They know where they fall dollar wise, and if it doesn't work they can discontinue it or lower the price.

I bet it's higher quality than both.

Bet it's not. Maybe equal, which begs the same question.

Honestly, the issue is misconceived reputation. In the AR15/10 world JP is top shelf and their prices reflect that. No issue there as it's firmly established and not contested.

They aren't the same mammoth force in the bolt gun world, so I think it's a stretch to assume you can walk in and sit at the head of the table. Just my opinion. Their last attempt was laughable, this looks like a much better design, but they're pricing themselves out.

What's it offer the competition doesn't at half the price?

So the bitch is, I have no clue, it's all about the price.

There are some valid benefits but pointing them out would only make people cry

Price points are moving, they have been for several years, the scale is sliding north, it's the new reality as if this reality didn't exist before this year.

What drives the scale on the prices? Is it materials? It's made from the same grade aluminum as the competition. It takes AI mags and AR handgrips, so does everyone else. It has an ARCA rail, so does XLR and MPA, you can add them to Manners and McMillan for a hundred and fifty bucks.

Its not built on a standard accessory ecosystem like MLOK or Keymod, so you can only buy their add ons. If you don't like theirs or they don't make what you want, you're SOL. It has a folding stock, so does everyone else. Adjustable length of pull and cheek, what's new?

The new Terrapin is about a hundred less than the older one, no? AI has had pricey stocks for a while but years ago they were THE only real option. They have a long history of producing durable stuff that people want and trust to work.

I don't have anything against them, per se, and business wise it makes sense. I'm just not seeing the benefit of spending the money. What do they offer at a higher price point over a decked out Manners, XLR, MPA, KRG?

That's why I like this place, I can't afford to buy everything to try it and don't know the folks to arrange hands on time. I'm not being a dick for the sake of arguing, but if they want to command that kinda price I'm genuinely interested in what makes it worth that extra cash other than the letters "JP" on it.

A checkered handguard?

Apologies in advance for my ignorance - I don’t usually see bolt guns with AR style hand guards - is this just a way to making accessories easier to add or ?

Thanks

Love my two JPs - SCR 11 in 6.5G and a CTR in .223. - both have this handguard.

I don't want to assume anything. Is the barrel dead center of the hand guard and what's the diameter of the hand guard? (short barrel plus can)
I talked to one of the sales guys the other day about this. The barrel is not centered in order to get the scope as low as possible. It can take up to a 1.350" diameter straight barrel though. If your can is smaller than that then you won't have any issues. You could also probably run it without the handguard tube.
