Maybe the cat just picked the wrong mother fucker to eat that day.
Reports I've heard (I'm local) is that it was a young cat. Testing for rabies, disease, etc. in progress.
And now he has to watch out for cougars too. He's getting a lot of "offers" via social media and the gf is not happy.?
Yep, I heard 80lbs which is not a big cat but if you hsve ever delt with an 80lbs dog, cow, goat .... They are all muscle and can tell you to fuck off at anytime. The dog and cat can of course eat you. But 80lbs animal is a hand full for sure.
The interview I saw on the local news on Thursday night said it weighed 40lbs. Not taking anything away from the guy either way, but would like to know which is accurate. Regardless, that would be hell of an undertaking!
First reports were 80# but turned out to be 40# and he killed w/ foot on neck. Still can't imagine not getting torn to shit.
Fair enough, I have a 3lbs cat that can shread the shit out of you if wanted.
The deal is maintaining your senses/mind. Even a 10lbs dog can scare the shit out of people. The funniest for me is when people run from geese or swans. Are you shiting me, that big long neck is ripe for breaking. No real teeth. I understand backing off for the peacefulness of life, but people run screaming like 3 year olds from those. Lions, tigers, bears i get but a damn bird with webbed feet.
Per the comments in the youtube video is 30-40lbs. and "starving". I've dealt with 5 lb barn cats than will fuck you up real good. 40 wild mountain lion would only be better than an 80 lb experienced mountain lion. No thanks. One of many reasons to carry.

Exactly. The same reason why so much foul and vile deeds in human history has gone unpunished or not held accountable is because too many people fold up like paper kites when faced with adversity.
For me, Plan A is always to seek out as peaceful of a life as possible, with minimal confrontation and conflicts, and always ready to smile and lend a helping hand.
However, if me, my loved ones, or a helpless child or defenseless person is facing mortal danger, I am always mentally and physically prepared to resort to Plan B, which is to win using any method available. That can mean dumping a full magazine of .45 Auto into a mass shooter who is in the process of gunning down innocents, or if I don't have my gun on me, simply saying "fuck it", and prison-yard rush the fucker and drive a combat knife repeatedly into his abdomen. Those who are not willing to sacrifice their own lives to protect those they love, are simply not fitting to be called "men" in any sense of the word.
This man is an inspiration and a worthy role model for all to follow and learn from. He had stared death straight in the eyes on that jogging trail and he prevailed because he did not allow it to claim what is his. And I am even more happier for him that he was able to leave the hospital and reunite with his GF for Valentine's Day. The ability to be courageous and innovative are God's greatest gift to mankind.
How I wished he would have said that too.
This was the perfect chance to spit right in the faces of the disarmament crowd and tell them, on national and online media, to take their gun ban fuckery and shove it where the sun don't shine.

Years ago a friend of a friend had a Cougar kitten as a pet. I played with "Tiffany" quite often, at 3 months she had a lot of game, at 6 months she could swat you upside the head so quick with so much authority it was scary...… I quit playing.
The grown cats around here (western Oregon) run 110-145lbs according to local Fish and Wildlife biologists. Based on the cats friends have shot in eastern and southern Oregon outback they'll get upwards of 165lbs. Based on the strength of Tiffany and my 70lb Lab and 135lb Great Dane I have absolutely no desire to engage a cat. My only encounter was years ago hunting dear in the forested hills behind my house, cat popped up on a downed tree in heavy underbrush and I touched off a round from the hip with a 30-06 and we went our separate ways.
That guy was relatively lucky IMO.

Many years ago my Bud's BIL had a pet cougar.
We would go into his cage when he was maybe 40 lbs or so.
He still had enough strength to bring you down if you weren't paying attention.
At 200 I never got to close to his corn crib cage.
For entertainment we tested his strength.
2 1/2 gallon chem jugs empty lid on.
We couldn't pop the lid off by jumping on them, the cat could reach through the wires and pop the tops every try.
