Thanks for having me. Currently getting into reloading and want to do some long range shooting. Will soon build a good long range rig but for now just shooting the 788 out to 100yrds with hand loads. Really like the Tikkas but a little out of my budget at the moment. Doing pretty well at the range, but could always improve. Hence my signing up for Sniper's Hide.

Currently shooting S&W m&p 15, Remington 788 .222, and Marlin 3030.

Really like what I've read so far. Looking forward to the discussion.

Welcome! Do yourself a HUGE favor and consider joining the Online Training section of the forum. There are many dozens of instructional videos there (with new ones being added). It's only $15 / month subscription. You can cancel at any time. Binge-watch a bunch of the videos, and you'll jump the learning curve much more quickly.

Welcome to the hide man. There any good outdoor ranges up near you or is the nearest long range still down in Manatee? It's been years since I've bene in FL but I remember the 1,000yd range down in Manatee was awesome.

Thanks!! Yeah the Myakka Gun and Archery is the range near Bradenton. I Plan on making my first trip in a week or so. There is also another range that's supposed to be opening in Plant City. 2k yards I think. I really hope it happens. Still only have the .222 but I think I can get it out to 300yrds. The 1000yrd set up will come next. Thanks so much for the welcome!!

Welcome CJ,

Another Tampa bay guy here.
Manatee is only 600yds now. Been that way for a while.

JTAC Ranch is still running behind schedule and I stopped holding my breath for it to open.
I'm only 20 minutes away from it.
It will be set up for 2k shooting.

You should have the Wyoming Antelope Club in Largo.

And locally for me we have the Shoot Shack. It isn't much, but they have 300 yds available.

You can stretch that 222 beyond 300 yards, no problem. Take it out and have some fun with it.

Hell if they open up a 2k range there, then I might plan to make visiting family in FL a reoccurring thing lol. That sucks about the manatee range only being 600yds now. I guess they finally got tired of idiots shooting over the berm because they don't know what they are doing and think its fun to just lob rounds out there.

I never heard of Shoot Shack but that's still better than most options in the TB area. Last time I went to WAC, it was a super regulated 100yd range with bench shooting only with no face targets or rapid fire (to include rapid bolt drills).

It's been like 6 years since I've been shooting in Florida but I go back every now and then (just not to shoot).

FYI guys the long anticipated JTAC Ranch is off the planning stages and construction is underway. They have a facebook page here. Been following these guys for years and this looks a lot more like a when than an if now and it shows 26 minutes from my driveway which does NOT suck.

Where in Florida is this?? Cannot find a location on their FB page. The map widget on their page is not working.

It’s 20 to 25 minutes directly east of downtown Tampa. Can hardly wait for this....forget hunting lease I’m out! Already have a buyer for my thermal going to hunt a little more the rest of this month and put that towards my pursuits At JTAC!

Thanks. Yeah.... not in my area. I'm in Palm Beach County. The good news is that they're building a new FWC shooting sports park here. The bad news is that it's something like 8 years in the making, and progress has been slow. They're building it at the "speed of government!"

The only outdoor range in the county (currently) is the Sheriff's training range, which is open to the public only one weekend per month. Though, it's a nice range, and they run it very well. Otherwise, we have to drive to Okeechobee or down to Fort Lauderdale.

Nice! What's the distance of the Sheriff's training range in PBC?

They have two ranges. One is 50 yards.

The other is a variable distance range. On Saturday, it's set at 100 yards. On Sunday, it's set at 200 yards. Once every 3 months, on Sunday, it's set at 300 yards instead of 200 yards.

Once the FWC range is open, the sheriff's range will be closed to the public.

Ok well shoot wish you were closer I can't wait to give these folks my $ and begin my post-hunting LRP pursuits I'm really excited. Sounds like you have a few options in your area though.

I sometimes think that if my limited access to an outdoor range changed to unlimited and convenient, my ammo bill will go way up! ;) It might be a good thing I can go only one weekend per month for now!

Oh I agree. I will spend a ton less than I did on hunting initially, but I'm sure I will get fully immersed and the $$$ will begin to disappear!

It's like 20 minutes from my house.
I drove over there a few weeks ago and trucks were dropping off earth moving equipment.
I suppose my shooting expenses will go way up. Fishing will most likely take a back seat also. :)
