Got a new ruger hawkeye long range target model was wondering what I could do to smooth the action some? Bolt does have some play. Have to be straight with it but I was thinking it could be smoother?

But it's not likely to ever be super smooth like a custom

Agreed.

I've got just under 9,400 on my KM77VT and it's just recently started to smooth up. I have to use tw25b because of the cold and it helps, but for the first 5,000 or so when cleaning I would routinely find material that looked as though it was lapping itself. My first rifle was an AW308, and while this is my current fave, it will NEVER be as smooth.

What do you mean by not smooth?

Not a hawkeye but my mkII m77 is basically the same and is really damn smooth IMO, slides like theres no friction at all between the bolt and the action. You can feel the follower and the various bits that press against the bolt on its way into the action as a slight hitch along the way but they dont ever stop its movement. I wouldnt say its gritty or not smooth, its just a mauser style action.

Sure with the bolt all the way to the rear you can push it to the side and it wont go forward but then again you arent trying to make it go forward when you push it to the side... so duh.

So I guesss what I want to know is... what do you mean by "its not smooth"?
