I'll bet it was 9mm. 45 would have only needed one. 
I know a guy the was gut shot 6 times by a 38 and drove himself to the hospital.
Got shot again 6 years later one with a 45 and died pretty quickly.
Weird huh?
It’s almost like the 45 was designed to do just that.
the 38 special has killed a lot of people. i wont be volunteering to get shot with one.
There is something about big, moderate velocity bullets made of soft lead or alloy that just makes them far deadlier than their smaller bore and jacketed counterparts. Elmer Keith has done numerous penetration and ballistics studies on various pistol rounds and his conclusion fully favored the lead bullet in a cartridge of black powder origin as a superior fight stopper.
The NYPD has issued .38's for more than 100 years. .38 revolvers have JUST been phased out this year, when the top brass ordered that all detectives and senior officers who are still carrying them must qualify on semi-automatics by the end of May. That is when all remaining .38's are going to be scrapped.
