Assuming they had a security camera system that probably should have had remote monitoring capability, they should have been able to locate the general location where the fire started if it was in a "public" area.

If it started in a construction area, they need to figure out if it was an inside job. Hopefully the church wasn't dumb enough to hire jihadis to renovate the place.

A good fire investigator shouldn't have much trouble determining the place where the fire started with all of the video footage and other evidence.

Never assume.
It is reported several times, it started in a work area in the steeple, where the ancient roof timbers fueled the fire like heart pine lider, and ran the whole roof timber area, but not into the lower areas.
A few sources have reported Macron is catching flack because there were no sprinklers in the roof area, and that lack of preventive equipment is missing in other historic sites as well, and has been reported as problems in previous historical site's fires.
These reports have been squelched. It was "initially believed" to be a construction accident in the steeple.

All that has been drowned in the conjecture and following news where more questions are asked than facts presented and the conjecture comes faster than investigations can produce results.
Fwiw, I did fire investigation for 8 years, and have seen really hot fires destroy evidence, and it come down to a single witness "finally" telling, I screwed up, sometimes years later.

We are going to have to wait and see, then judge the evidence, not conjecture or opinion.

Further into the article it mentions that the contractors had left the site an hour before the fire was reported.

To that says their not out of the woods. The fire could have been started by their workers (unintentionally) before they left while it slowly built into the inferno...

I'm going to go out on a limb and assume that a national treasure/museum that's open to the public should have surveillance in the public areas. It should have the hard drives off site and they should be monitored by security and probably local police.

I don't expect functional discourse. I've lost hope that certain parties would look at this without the weight of confirmation bias. My comment was a flippant nod to the suggestion that disrepair and lack of preventative mechanisms were likely causes. Given the chance to spew hatred and advance conjecture, though, an Occam's Razor explanation won't fly for some.

Occam’s Razor is the reason no one buys the narrative you’re so dead set on protecting.

How many church fires since February? All accidents? That’s unlikely, given an cursory google search shows that the incident rate has gone through the roof relative to historic building fires in a normal year.

Again, it’s almost like you have a PERSONAL reason to keep the focus off a certain likely candidate for the fire, and it’s stopping you from admitting that people aren’t just racist for having questions about the incident.

But please, continue to imply that anyone who questions this being pure accident is just a bigot ?

Until something solid comes out of this Im going with, lazy ass french worker wanted to go home from his allotted 4 hour workday early and didnt give a fuck to think something may have been left on or something didnt look safe and didnt care.

Almost had my house burn down during a complete remodel when some lazy fuck left layers and layers of plastic sheeting draped all over one of my giant chandelieers in an area that is 25 plus feet to the ceiling and the plastic draped all the way to a nearby wall and down to the floor and left the lights on.

Had my designer not come by that night to measure some things and smelled burned plastic I would have had a giant fire.

I actually was shocked the PM committed public funds to rebuild. Until I realize it is a national symbol and tourist attraction way more than a religious venue. France has done their best to marginalize The Church to a museum/tourist attraction. Kinda sad kinda expected.

As a fire inspector/engineer, and with modern technology, they will be able to locate where fire started relatively easy and if any foul play, a culprit will spill the beans sooner or later. Nvr fails lol.

Conspiracy wise, and I love a good one as much as any of us, I would love to see the books on the budget for their renovation related to insurance and see the relation. Wouldn't be surprised if fire was intentional and am waiting to hear it was...ALWAYS follow the $$ is cynical...but true!!
