Gunsmithing Magazine filler blocks...problem solved. Tikka T3's, MDT/AI

Ok educate me please. Are these blocks for shooters who are single feeding rounds that are longer than standard mag length. Also what is the benefit of doing this over just having an empty magazine in place and letting the cartridge sit on the top of the feed lips? Asking out of curiosity more than anything else.

While I can't speak for Chad, there are some rifles and mags that single feeding is still an issue. One of my rifles in a Desert Tech. If I have the mag in and try to single feed by laying a round on top of the follower, it'll never feed as the tip of the bullet will get caught on the barrel extension, so some people have made blocks that raise the round enough to clear the extension and single feed reliably.

Ok, were on the wrong page here.

Magazine fed gun. Not a single shot. The magazine is longer than the opening on the bottom of the receiver.

Cases slip forward under the feed ramp of the action.

This block fits in the front and effectively prevents that by shortening the usable length.

The feed ramp feature in the block gets the case into the breech wheres the receiver feed ramp can have issues. The bigger case body of a magnum pushes the centerline further down when captured by the feed lips on top. The bullet sometimes wants to hit the narrow flat right at the bottom of the ramp.

You could dremel the flat away I guess, but I avoid molesting receivers whenever possible.

Ahh ok thank you for explaining. that makes perfect sense. I confused this with another product I had seen earlier this month on here that looked to be a complete block replacement for the magazine. Definitely appreciate the explanation.
