Gunsmithing Rem 700 police barrel inlet

Hi all,
I was thinking about putting a M24/M40 profile barrel on my 700P in 308win. I was wanting to keep the original stock. Can I get the stock inletted for the bigger profile barrel or will I ruin it.

Should work fine with a little, judicious sanding. Might end up a little front heavy, though, depending on the barrel length.

Go to Home Depot/Lowes, buy a 1" or 1.5" wooden dowel. They come like 3' long. Get the 12"x12" sheets of sand paper. Put the stock in your vise with some cardboard,etc on the sides so you dont scratch it up. Wrap the sand paper around the end of the wooden dowel and work it back and forth in the barrel channel till your barreled action is bolted into the stock and you can easily slide a $20 bill (or whatever bill you got) back and forth under the barrel from the action all the way out the end of the stock easily without it rubbing.

Its super easy and just takes a little elbow grease and you time.

Do you use a drill on the 1 - 1 1/2" rod so it spins? or just back and forth- front to back?
