    Hey all,

Not new to shooting, but new to custom actions. I've always shot trued R700. I'm looking to step up my game next year and I want to build a new PRS/Long range rifle.

My question is in the title, I think I've narrowed it down to these two actions and I'm hoping for experienced advice on which direction to go.

    Thanks in advance!

    I own and run both.

I prefer the vector as I like the bolt throw and using aw mags. Keep in mind though, anything that runs aw (except an AI) will need likely need some tuning to run perfectly.

If I didn’t run aw mags, it would be a toss up. Though impact will also do an aw cut if you order it.

If you can, get behind them both. An impact feels “normal” as far as the cocking and such. Where the Curtis is 60deg so it has a heavier lift. It also has almost no cock on close (at least you can’t feel it), and with the roller ball, it damn near closes itself once you start to close the bolt.

Neither one is “better” as it’s wll about personal preference. However, you will likely have to do less tweaking/tuning with the impact.

Does the impact have the same quick barrel change system as the Vector or am I missing something? I'm in the same boat.

Impacts use shouldered barrels, which IMO are superior to quick change systems. Easy to change out a shouldered barrel, just requires some tools.

The advantage to Impacts is that there are shouldered pre-fits available on the shelf, ready to go. If you want an off the shelf barrel, and are okay with their barrel length, contour, reamer choice, etc, then it's a nice perk that people enjoy.

I feel like that advantage for impacts is actually an advantage to pretty much all the custom actions now.

Sure, if you want an off the shelf barrel, and are okay with their barrel and chamber options.

Most custom actions are held to such a tight tolerance these days that gunsmiths can spin up a shouldered barrel without seeing your action. ARC, Lone Peak, Surgeon, Bighorn, Curtis, etc.

I can get a custom barrel spun up in ~2-3 weeks with the exact blank brand, contour, length, chamber specs, etc - I have no interest in pre-fits. But I'm fairly picky.

I've noticed on this site every time someone asks about actions and quick change options, it's guaranteed to generate at least one "every action is a quick change" response.

Impact uses shouldered barrels. Vector can too!
Impact accepts pre-fit barrels. Vector can too!

Impact doesn't offer the ability to swap barrels without a vise. It's an option on the Vector.

Both great actions. Almost impossible to make a wrong decision between them :)
