Flori-duh.
Armageddon Gear has announced their first ever match. Instead of a typical PRS match, however, this is going to be a 20-person, invite-only match hosted at Arena Training Facility in Blakely, GA on the 28-30th of October (Yes, that's 3 days). There is no prize table, instead the winner walks away with $20,000 in cash. In addition to $20k for the winner, each stage winner will get $1k (and there's 20 stages) for the highest score in the shortest time.

Did I mention the whole thing is going to be televised on Shooting USA?

The official announcement video from Armageddon Gear is on Youtube and in this brief blurb from Recoil. There's more details coming on the match format, so expect more info to be released throughout the summer.

Shooter roster:
Regina Milkovich
Brian Allen
Bradley Allen
Brandon Hembree
Tate Streater
Jon Pynch
Jake Vibbert
Tyler Payne
Ken Sanoski
Matt Rooks
Matt Utroska
Joe Walls
Austin Orgain
Dan Jarecke
Jason Greene
Dave Preston
Clay Blackketter
Derek Love
Robert Brantley
Keith Baker

Edit - mid-July Update:
Tom did a video with Ryan Castle earlier this week for the MPA Academy and he released some addtional details. I can't link to the video from where I am right now, so here's some details from memory:

The shooters are broken into 2 squads of 10. Shooters will be briefed on a stage and given 5 minutes to locate targets, observe wind, etc. They will then be put into a dedicated holding area out of sight of the shooting area, and they will shoot the stage in a given order. As shooters complete the stage, they are moved to a second holding area. As a result shooters that have yet to go on a given stage cannot see the current shooter or the targets, and after shooting the stage, they cannot pass info onto shooters that have not gone.

Shooters will not know other shooters score per stage - so yes, mind games are bound to happen between shooters. "Ah, man, I bombed that stage, I am not doing well..." - Shooter that cleaned it

Once each squad completes the first stage, they will flip-flop and repeat this process. After both stages are complete, both squads will move to the next 2 stages and so on.

Each pair of stages will be at similar distances to minimize advantages based on distance and conditions. IE: One squad can't get lucky and shoot a long stage in a low wind condition, etc.

Stages will be similar to stages at PRS matches (roughly 90 sec par times, average of 10 rounds per stage), but expect greater difficulty.

No human-shaped targets will be used, and competitors will not be referred to as 'shooter' - this is being done to present a better image to the public at large and potential sponsors from outside of the shooting world.

There will be two lead ROs, hand selected by Tom due to their experience as ROs - both for spotting and their ability to handle shooters under pressure. Additional staff will be provided to assist, but the lead ROs are handling stage briefings and primary spotting role. Since there's only 2 stages running at any given time, very few ROs are needed.

*ALL* targets will be videoed using PhoneSkope adapters, in addition to cameras to video the shooters. If a shooter believes they scored an impact that was missed by the RO, they have the right to challenge via video review. If the shooter wins the challenge (After review of the recording by Tom), they are awarded the point and retain the right to challenge. If they lose the challenge, they do not get the point and they receive a 15 second penalty on the next stage. (I believe they also lose the right to challenge any calls the rest of the day)

The scoring will be similar to PRS, but in addition to score, time will be kept via shot timer for every stage. The shooter with the highest score in the lowest time (Just like PRS skills stages) will win $1,000 for the stage (...remember that 15 second penalty for a lost challenge?). Overall time for the entire match will be used as the tiebreaker in the event of a tie for first place.

There is no prize table. $20k for the winner, $1k for the winner of each stage. With 20 stages in total, that's $40,000 up for grabs.

The match will be open to the public, but spectators will not be allowed to have contact with the shooters during stages to prevent spectators from providing any assistance to shooters. Details for spectators will be provided closer to the match.

Tom does want to continue this match in the future with they eye to growing it and bringing in outside sponsors similar to NASCAR, golf, tennis, etc. He made the comparison of a furniture store sponsoring a NASCAR driver because that company is getting visibility on TV, even though their product has nothing to do with racing or cars. More planning will go into future match growth (possibly more shooters, bigger cash prizes, etc) after this year's match.

27 Aug Update:
Photos of the Cup at AG Headquarters have been posted to the Facebook page.

10 Sep: Details for spectators

This is going to be awesome.

That's the plan. I've actually had a very small hand in the planning (mostly from Tom bouncing ideas off me) over the last few months, and I am one of the match ROs. There's more stuff planned that Tom hasn't announced yet (and a few tricks I am working on), but more will follow as things progress.

A couple other details I forgot about:
The trophy is being done by the same company that makes the Stanley Cup and Lombardi Trophy, so just the trophy itself is going to be pretty damn epic.

Interviews will be done with the shooters ahead of time, and reaction interviews throughout the match.

John from Shooting USA is looking at being able to do Golf-style trajectory graphics showing the flight path of the bullet for the TV show to help home viewers visualize what is happening.

The televised piece is going to be almost an entire episode of Shooting USA, so ~45m of screen time with sponsor and shooter spotlights, etc.

There's a list published on FB, but I would have to go find it again. Off the top of my head:
Regina Milkovich
Jon Pynch
Jake Vibbert
Matt Brousseau
Tyler Payne
Dave Preston
Robert Brantley
Derek Love
Joe Walls
Brandon Hembree
Brian Allen
Bradley Allen
Keith Baker
Matt Utroska
Jason Greene

I think all of those names are right, and obviously I am missing a few. I'm not sure how many people (if any) were invited but turned it down, either.

Someone sent me the list and I can freakin find it anywhere

Yeah, when AG posted it, I think they edited a post to add the photo of the roster, and FB has tried to eat it or something. Actually finding it is a PITA. The entire AG crew is off at a canning party for Windcheater this afternoon, so Tom and Missy are busy with that. I will try to see if they can re-post the roster this weekend.

Lets go Keith!! We are squadded together in sept Pigg River match. I cant wait to pick his brain about this.

How about adding in NRL stats to that? Only counting PRS skews the numbers a bit, IMO.

That's harder to do given the way the NRL website works. If you pull their individual results from 2018/2019 and type out the individual match finishes I'll put them in the spreadsheet though!

Nice to see a couple of our OPPS guys on that list. Shot with Austin last weekend. He and Tate are both good dudes

NRL only counts west of Oklahoma.

This is a popularity contest.

If you're referring to the people invited, not really. The first criteria was they had to have won a major match. Brantley got an invite on the weight of having won KO2M last year and getting second this year. Everyone else on that list has won at least one 2-day match and multiple top 10 finishes. Tom went out of his way to invite the best shooters from the PRS/NRL shooting format that he could.

Updated stats to reflect new roster. Not making any value judgements here, any one of these shooters is capable of winning. You don't win a National Match (or KO2M) accidentally.

I think it's gonna be exciting to watch, and I enjoy the metrics too.

Yea. That’s a shame. Many think he is either the best shooter in the country or at worst in the top 3. That is still a very impressive lineup. I think this is a great idea and good for growing the sport. There are a hand full of companies/people who really drive the growth and Tom is absolutely near or at the front of that line. He is also a super nice guy and will have a conversation with anybody at a match. I wish him and all the shooters luck on this endeavor.

Dang would’ve liked to see Matt shoot this.

Unfortunately, that’s gonna put a damper on things.

Still gonna be awesome match, but when you don’t have arguably the best there, it’s always gonna be mentioned.

I've edited the original post with the current shooter roster and the updated info from the MPA Academy video. I'll continue to edit the main post as new info is released to make it easier for people that haven't seen the thread yet to have all of the info right at the top.

2018 PRS Finale Winner "not invited"
2017 PRS Finale Winner "not invited"

Seems legit to me...

Phil was invited. Couldn't shoot it due to scheduling and his daughter. I just talked to him about it.

Sorry Hollywood, I didn't mean to derail. However I know a lot of great shooters out west that deserve recognition too. I realize you cant make everyone happy and MD can be a thankless job.

It’s much more fun to make assumptions and post about it online though.
You would know all about that numb-nuts.

Bear in mind - Tom hasn't released a list of people that were invited. If you watch the actual video from the original post (it's the video that was sent to invitees), they had until a specific date (end of June, I think) to accept the invite, or their spot would be passed on to the next person. The roster I have posted in this thread are the people that *ACCEPTED* the invite. For all we know, 10 people were invited that passed on shooting the match, so their spots rolled over to someone else. Matt B was originally on the roster but bowed out, and his spot ended up with Clay Blackketter. I know Tom agonized over the invite list, so the people that got invites weren't picked lightly. Just because someone isn't on the roster doesn't mean they weren't thought of or even invited.

Just out of curiosity and to keep this at the top, what shooters would you add to list ?

I have a few locals that have won PRS/NRL matches in the past and usually in the top 10 that didn’t get invited.

Just looking for others that maybe I’ve missed.

Matty B is the best shooter in all of PRS- hands down. Dude is on a different level than everybody else.

this^ ...its still gunna be fun to watch tho

when matt is on, he doesnt get touched...when he's off, still only a handful can touch him if theyre having a good day lol

his only finish outside 1st or 2nd since the 2017 finale was the ELR match...crazy consistency

I can say I did beat him a couple years ago, but he was having a rough weekend apparently. I think he finished 15th or something.

Anyway, I agree that it sucks Matt withdrew. Still, you can't say that the people that got invited aren't top drawer shotoers.

@Hollywood 6mm Since you asked about NRL stats I went and checked the NRL website and realized that I could easily get the global results for all shooters there. Scores are in percentage form, so it's not quite apples to apples with the PRS stuff. NRL also made a rule change this year where placement as well as percent of winner figures into the score. Here is the AG shooter roster with their NRL scores from 2018-19 added in.

AG Stats Update.jpg

Since folks were asking about the "what if" of other strong shooters who could be contenders in this kind of match if it keeps going every year, I did a little more crunching of all the NRL data. I pulled full year 2018 and YTD 2019 NRL results, looking at shooters who had at least one win and had shot at least three matches. I included a couple additional shooters who had strong % results with no NRL wins, because I knew they have won two-day PRS matches in the past. I also calculated their average PRS placement so you could compare. If there's a question mark next to their name it's because they aren't active PRS members this year so I can't pull up their profile and prior results.

SO... is there any idea on time between match and air date?
Is there a Vegas book for this yet?

I’ll take Pynch, Vibbert, Preston for $500 with 5/1 in my favor. Whoever wants to bet can have the rest of the field.

My $500 to your $2500

And I’ll do same bet for $100 to your $500 on each stage.

For folks interested in coming to watch the AG Cup, here's some more details straight from the FB page:

We have had a lot of folks asking if they can come and spectate the AG Cup. Of course, we would love as many people there that can be. A few things of note for anyone planning on spectating. If you choose to observe a course of fire being ran, you will not be allowed to communicate with a competitor that has not yet shot that course of fire. The competitors will be in holding areas and will have limited interaction with the spectators. If you would like to eat lunch or dinner with the competitors we would need a heads up and you will need to pay for the meals. Lunch $10 and dinner $15. This goes straight to the caterer. Lodging can be booked at Arena Training Facility or local hotels. Hope to see you there.
