Was fortunate enough to get this as a pistol, turned it into a rifle (SBR). Process wasn't too hard, about 100 days for stamp.

Swiss Arms are rock solid, both in a good way and bad.
Amazing reliability, will eat anything. However they are quite heavy compared to a similar length barrel AR, and accessory mounting is a bitch. Also very $$$$$$. The folding stock is pretty sweet though, the mechanism is very robust.

I have a San Swiss 553R. Uber high quality and a very expensive AK. I've yet to do anything with it though. SBR and some sort of optic are on the agenda.

I wouldn't mind a 553 in 5.56 but the 7.62x39 round makes a lot more sense to me in an SBR than 5.56.

Don't get me wrong though, I've got plenty of short barreled 5.56's.

The R is a cool 553, I had money down on one from JDI but they took to long and I cancelled. My buddy did
get a couple and they are indeed the best AK platform there is. Just hope you don't need parts but that is
unlikely of course.

Thanks. And you raise a valid point re: spare parts. But this more a collectable than a SHTF gun....although I plan on shooting the damn thing....eventually.

I got bit by the A4 clone bug and the fever is high.
