I have the a419 adapter setup for this TB can, so I went out today with a brake and the suppressor to try some comparisons. The rifle is an absolute treat to shoot with the can, about as loud as an unsuppressed 22lr if I had to guess. Bad part was my accuracy went to shit and I actually lost about 30fps. I expected some POI shift, and possibly some node shift due to the harmonics etc., but the loss of speed is troubling. Since the can is a .30 rated, is there just too much clearance causing inconsistencies there? Wadya think?

I’m likely going to do some load testing to see if I can get the accuracy and speed back.

I run a 30p1 direct thread on my brx. It shoots extremely well. If you can’t get your accuracy back, I’d say it might be a bad thread job?? Shooting a 243 bullet through a can meant for 308 bullets should have less affect on the bullet than a tighter bored can. Hanging all that weight off a barrel acts like a tuner and changes harmonica sometimes enough to cause a node shift. Your loss of 30 FPS could have dropped you out of the node too. I always do load work ups with the can I plan to shoot on the gun.

Most likely there's a problem with mounting. Give us a call with some things to check. Muzzle threads must be "to spec" per the thread print and shoulder must be perfectly perpendicular to bore. We'd have you mount it straight on a CB brake or FH with no peel washer to verify.

Loss of speed is almost physically impossible. More likely is your chrono is getting confused. With a screen type, try moving it further out.

Thanks for the info and reply! I checked both velocities on a lab radar with one of Greg Piet’s triggers, on the same bench and setup with the only difference being with can and without. I’m gonna try to work up a load for the can and see if it comes around.

Strongly recommend checking the mounting and giving us a call.
Just called in, sounds like strong possibility of mis-alignment, so I will not be doing any more load development until that issue is investigated and/or corrected. Good to have TB as such a standup company, completely happy with all their products I own.

I run a 338 BA on my 6 BRa chambered rifle and it shoots awesome. It is the quietest rifle at a PRS match and shot timers even held near the muzzle have trouble picking up the shots. I did try the Area419 adaptor on it and had issues with a zero shift that went away when I purchased another TBAC brake for this rifle. Was looking for a less expensive alternative since I run my 338 can on 4 different rifles.

Turns out a minor housekeeping issue was at fault here. I got to looking deeper into the mount and such on my muzzle, saw it had some pretty good carbon build up on the mating surfaces. I cleaned everything, removed the adapter, remounted everything, checked alignment etc, and had a great range session tonight with the can on. Could not find any indication of a strike on a baffle or anywhere else on the can with a bore scope, so it seems everything is right in the world again.
