Has anyone used H4895 and Rl-17 that can give some input as to velocity achieved and temp stability with the BR? I would assume both of these would be ideal for the 95-105 weight.

Just curious-is it too slow, case capacity not there or what? I’m trying to find a couple powders to try besides the usual Varget loads. I have used some 8208 in a Grendel that did pretty well.

A few buddies and I all run H4895 in our BR's. Very temp stable. I have tested Varget as well, shot great, required much more powder to achieve the H4895 speeds.

Load:
29.6gn of H4895
CCI 450 primers
105 Berger Hybrids .0025 jump

2850fps SD 4

Varget was around 31gn's to get the same speeds...But I know a few folks that have great success with it.

That’s what I was wondering about with Varget. Seems like by the time I have the same speed with Varget I’ve already started getting pressure signs.

Yes RL17 is most likely too slow. As far as capacity I have no idea. I run 8208 XBR on my 6mm BR 29.5 grains yields 3000 FPS with a 95 tmk and a 26” barrel.
