Is gen-X the last "great" generation?

"The Greatest Generation" wasn't all that fucking great either. Were they better than the ones who won WWI? They really fucked up a lot of shit, and have left us in unimaginable, crushing debt with their pyramid schemes and socialist bullshit. I agree that they were way better than their kids, but people who come through adversity are always better than the ones who only know easy living.

I will say, as Milf Dots alludes, more of us were taught to value our liberty and economic freedom (capitalism). I had an admitted communist teacher in high school, but that was the exception and not the rule. Now it seems like ALL the teachers are fucking communists, and they fuck up kids heads. The fact that they don't even value freedom of speech is really ridiculous to me. How does a kid not value that? What the fuck is wrong with them?

I think every generation has their greatness. It just seems like it's getting smaller and smaller as we go forward.

The good news is that the bitch Nemesis is always hot on the heels of hubris, and as the entitlement and ignorance grows so does her retribution. What we know about history is that no one ever learns from history...

Let's NOT discount the huge negative effects of public schools, colleges, hollywood, the media, and the internet- on the minds of kids. That often is cumulative enough to override proper upbringing- especially for single mom households. There's a reason why it's called brainwashing.

Those things, like millennials, didn’t just spring from the ground.
All those organizations and their cultures were put in place by Boomers, and Gen-Xers.
They were the ones voting for it, paying for it, the ones controlling it.

True, and the Boomers were raised by "The Greatest Generation". Clearly their parenting skills were pretty fucked up too to have such a massive cultural shift in so short a time.

This shit is navel gazing. The Millennials I work with are squared away and think the culture is getting more fucked up.

checkmate.

I'll be honest, I've been surprised recently with how many conservative millennials I've run into lately. Just the other day, a young hispanic woman/girl was going door-to-door, looking for registered Republicans, to get signatures to recall the douche bag Newsom from this states governorship.

Similarly, my daughter (who recently graduated from college) had some friends over one day, and I was surprised that several of them were conservative (and one well left liberal from Canada, of all places).

I think every generation has their shitbirds and cry babies, but honestly, I think the post-economic crash generation (the ones who were in school when the economy tanked) have learned some hard lessons...and are better for it.

Then again, I may just be feeling optimistic today. :D

Interesting...ran across this...,

"Millennials are sometimes referred to as "echo boomers" due to a major surge in birth rates in the 1980s and 1990s, and because millennials are often the children of the baby boomers."

It's all the late blooming Boomers who waited too late in life to have children so they could focus on their careers and themselves. And it's showing.

Society has just as big an influence on kids as parents do. Unless you keep a near iron grip on your kids they will be affected.

Post WWII morality started to decline. The Greatest Generation allowed it because they saw so many kids blown to pieces. That they just said, let those kids live.

Every generation is a function of the one that came before them. All parents want their children to have it better than they did. That pendulum swung to far in one direction and too many millennial children never had to work for things, solve their own problems, be independent at an early age or get use to being told they are not equal or told no. I am tired of the perpetual whining from millennials but that will get sorted out by the world because the world does not care.

I wonder sometimes if that is really true or not (getting sorted out by the world), since if many of them fail, we (the taxpayers) end up funding their lives.

I'm not sure what the current kids in school (their generation) is called, but they concern me. I use to volunteer at the local HS, mentoring their robotics program, and some of those kids...man. Now granted, they all come from very affluent families (this is in a very high tech area of San Diego), but man, these kids EXPECT so much more be provided for them and do not recognize a system of meritocracy or time in service/grade.

College may not do it, but the real world is going to come as a huge shock to many of them...

I am mystified by the results of some people's kids. We raised ours with Beavis and Butthead, Ren and Stimpy, Southpark, loud punk rock, and live shows, good food and participating education. They came out pretty damn good. No1 Son is a Master Somme ,and manages the liquor and wine in his Fishtown state ABC store in Philly. Yeah he kinda leans a bit to the left, but after being robbed he carries a blade that is quick to use, and he knows fast fighting back is the way to survive and to not let the attacker get away without multipl sticks in as many organs as possible ad that the inner thigh is also a great target.
No2 is an apprentice Commercial Wireman I with a great start to a five year Journeyman turn out. He also knows that when SHT, his job is AR, gather No3 and Mom, and get to cover where he can provide defensive fire. If the first mag is not enough, he knows the 100 round C Mag is right there.
No3 is a music ed major, spends as much time in the basement on a multi screen computer as he does in classes, but is in his junior year and close to graduating. As a grad stuent working on his MEd in Music, he will gain a larger teaching audience as well as learn the minutia of being a great conductor. He leans a tad o the left, but likes shooing and knows that hame security starts with locking doors and knowing where to grab stuff should SHTF
Mom don't play, she grand the 9mm 1911 nd tow mags, grabs No3 and finds No2 so they can get to cover
Dad's the freaky scry fucker of teh bunch though. That Gen X fucker had had his head banged way too many times, been blown up twice, and he thinks the scariest thing anyone will ever see is a naked maniac with a Benelli or a FAL going Zulu Foxtrot full tilt hootenanny. I think he's right.

Mine came out great, what's ya'll excuses?

My take, it started with time-outs, Ritalin, participation trophies and a lack of discipline in the home (not making sure kids were responsible for their actions). Hell, even with how I raised my kids, it wasn't 100% effective, but I got to think if I wasn't the ass that I was, how worse off would they be?? Mac:unsure:

But let’s back up a minute. We have only ourselves to blame for all this shit. We have allowed it to manifest into the fuck up. All generations.

Let us not be like the candy asses and try to blame this on someone else...

Focus on getting the new generation off the ground without leftist brainwashing is more important than dislocating our elbows because we our patting ourselves on the back so hard...

Completely agree.

From what I have seen from gen-z (gen-x kids) they silently reject a lot of the PC suff. Especially what most moderates would consider over the top.

Good and bad...

Issue today is that if you dont play the game you will largely find yourself unmarketable. This is reinforced by constant influential forces beyond the household - media, school, etc.

IMO gen-x (by nature) have been way too quiet. But why?

I'm at work so don't have a lot of time to put into this post but I've been watching this close for a while. Gen Z is definitely starting out much better than the millennials due to being raised by X. My kids are a great example and I've watched what is happening with their peers as well as listening to what they are experiencing. There's a lot of hope out there.

Also my wife teaches high school and she's seeing it too. Recently I listened to a presentation by a guy who has put a lot of research into this topic and he's finding that Z is a lot like X and seems to be more fiscally stable, independent, more conservative, and rejecting modern liberalism. I was amazed at the Trump rally here just how many young people were there decked out in MAGA gear and this is a full on libtard stronghold. Yes, Z is definitely starting out better than the millennials.

I was a bit fuzzy so I looked it up....
I'm a fairly old gen X.
I have a millennial daughter and gen Z daughter.....

It appears.....that genZ are the bigger snowflakes and clueless ones.
But then....millennials are starting to reach the ages of reality right now.

There's good and bad in every generation from now, back to the fruit picking incident.

Many Gen-Xers were old enough as kids to be educated on the evils of the Soviet Union, communism, socialism, and fascism.

Good point. Although, I'll also point out that we were educated on the evils of drug use, and we can all see how well that worked out :(

The thing to realize with Gen X is that they (er, we) were highly independent as children. Because our moms were the first women in the workforce and our parents were the leaders of the divorce craze, we were the first generation of "latchkey kids" who mostly had to take care of ourselves after school (which we did by watching Transformers and GI Joe cartoons while eating junk food, and then riding our bikes around the neighborhood until well after dark). Through our parents' employment troubles, we witnessed the decline of American manufacturing. We had hippies and Boomers as teachers, but most of us saw through their bullshit. Our grandparents were members of the Greatest Generation and taught us valuable lessons about living through the Depression and surviving WWII. We saw our favorite rock stars and comedians die from suicide and drugs, which drove home harsh but valuable lessons about worshiping false idols. PC culture was the punchline to jokes. We didn't have $15/hour minimum wage; we earned $4.25 to start and quickly learned that finding a better job is the path to success.

And then we grew up to be mostly apothetic adults, absent from political life because we were too busy trying to keep our own shit together. I'd like to think that a solid dose of Gen X would solve many of today's problems, but after watching various shenanigans from the local township hall all the way to the three branches of the federal government, most of us kinda figured there's little point.

Yeah the more I think about it the more I realize how the greatest generation really helped to accelerate the fuck up. Seems to me they didn’t want their seeds to experience the shit they had to. Depression and WW2. The spawn they produced went on to be the hippy generation. So on and so on.

The Greatest Generation are guilty of nothing more than wanting their children to avoid atrocities such as the Depression, world war, and genocide. I can't place any blame on them for raising a generation of entitled pussies.

Weak men lead to hard times;
Hard times lead to good men;
Good men lead to easy times;
Easy times lead to weak men.

Repeat every 80 years or so.

Dude... My sister in law is a teacher. She’s awesome (politics aside) we get along great, she’s got a great sense of humor, we bond over the family (we’re both married in) and she’s gorgeous. ? But she is the most liberal hypocrite fucktard I’ve ever met. She teaches at a private catholic school. Then she’ll have her 2 daughters in “feminist in training” tee shirts. Scream why we need gun control online. And that socialism is the answer. Sooo two faced.

responsibility for your actions.
My take is when they quit giving pops in school is when kids became different.
I became respectful reel quick

Nothing like pulled from class, get your ass paddled then sent back to class right away. And I am not talking about some limp-wristed paddling either... Guys tried to play it off coming back to class but even the toughest mofos you could tell hurt plenty. Not to mention the embarassment factor. You could actually hear the paddling through the halls into the classrooms.

Principal at my intermediate school was pretty young, maybe in his mid 30s, was not a puss and a take no shit type. Paddle was thick like a damn cutting board with a handle. Solid wood and tapered for aerodynamics. I remember this after all these years and only saw it once lol.

The Xs that didn't go full commie mostly just waged an inconsequential revolt to the status quo with no rhyme or reason to their approach. Rebellion for the sake of non-complaceny achieves nothing, as it turns out.

The rest ran for office, and won mostly.

And here we are...

Gen X is the most useless generation to date. Ignorant of what was to come, ignorant of what was, and unable, entirely, of destroying anything.

If you're looking for a generation to blame, however, X is not it, nor the boomers, nor the millennial. Our downfall started long before 1900.

If gen X and others screwed this country up why do they have to import
voters to achieve their goals?...

Many of the current and past problems are/were foisted upon this country illegally.
Expecting the system to slap it's own hand is folly.

Look deeper...

From what I understand I am a young X. E Bryant pretty much summed up what I went through, and loved the freedom of it. I walked home from school at 7 with a house key and fended for myself catching grasshoppers, whacking away with the red ryder and watching aforementioned cartoons while eating cereal which I put waaaaay to much sugar in. I think X is a mix of that and the ultra coddled.

It seems starting somewhere in the boomers and definitely within X there is this coddling disease which has led to the lack of/ very weak coping mechanism. That is the root of our problem. Even though I was raised poor and had a lot of time fending for myself (thank God) my mom tried the coddle bullshit when she could. Luckily I rejected it for love of being outside and rubbing some dirt on it. When coping mechanisms are all but gone we get shit like school shooters, bullshit PC garbage, participation trophies, medication, etc.

These parents with weak coping mechanisms are raising kids to be the worst yet. The old lady has friends who's twins are given what they want to shut them up instead of dealing with it. How is that going to set them up for the future? These aren't silver spoon kids, they are going to have to get through public school and work. The parents lack of being able to cope with the kids losing their shit is bewildering. They are here often and I have told them that it doesn't fly when they are here. I can't stand to watch it. They are getting better when they are here, especially without the parents. The kids are responding well. Crazy to watch the behavior change when the mom shows up. I'm hoping they will see it working and take a different path at home. You can see the mom cringing and get uncomfortable when I sit and talk with the kid throwing a fit and play it out, not giving the kid what they want. The fits are getting shorter and their ability to move on to the next thing is getting better. I am going to have to deal with these kids for the foreseeable future. I need to at least get them to behave around me, if not help them for there future life ahead, which has potential to not be pretty.

The helicopter, protect at all costs, no discomfort of any kind for my kid-parenting started somewhere in there and now it's just insane. Do you know kids at college can now bring 'therapy dogs' to class? The school where I swim M-F looks like a freaking kennel there are so many therapy dogs I mean wtf.

The WWII generation and Boomers laid the foundation for all the government overreach by making the government get their fingers in everything we do one drop in the glass at a time. Namely to things mentioned below....
