Is gen-X the last "great" generation?

The Xs that didn't go full commie mostly just waged an inconsequential revolt to the status quo with no rhyme or reason to their approach. Rebellion for the sake of non-complaceny achieves nothing, as it turns out.

The rest ran for office, and won mostly.

And here we are...

Gen X is the most useless generation to date. Ignorant of what was to come, ignorant of what was, and unable, entirely, of destroying anything.

If you're looking for a generation to blame, however, X is not it, nor the boomers, nor the millennial. Our downfall started long before 1900.

This is probably the stupidest reply in this thread. Gen X is just now beginning to become the majority in politics. The Boomers just won't die fast enough. We've extended useful life so much that the Boomers are still fucking shit up for Gen X to fix.

I wonder sometimes if that is really true or not (getting sorted out by the world), since if many of them fail, we (the taxpayers) end up funding their lives.

I'm not sure what the current kids in school (their generation) is called, but they concern me. I use to volunteer at the local HS, mentoring their robotics program, and some of those kids...man. Now granted, they all come from very affluent families (this is in a very high tech area of San Diego), but man, these kids EXPECT so much more be provided for them and do not recognize a system of meritocracy or time in service/grade.

College may not do it, but the real world is going to come as a huge shock to many of them...
Shit man, I went to an elementary school "trimester" award ceremony yesterday.... 95% of kids got an award.

If you weren't on the "honor roll" for overall academic achievement, then there were awards for each individual subject (math, science, writing, language). There were awards for "perfect" attendance even though you could have up to one absence AND one tardy/early out during the trimester. And there were the "teacher's choice" awards for those that maybe didn't get something mentioned above.

Lol. Literally, I'm laughing out loud. Who fucking cares about laying blame? When our kids were dirt poor (literally living in homes with dirt floors) and went to one room schools with one teacher for all grades, we produced more innovators and geniuses than our entire education industrial complex produces in a nation of 320,000,000+!

I was watching some Netflix thing last night about wealth (thinking about this thread), and there was an anthropologist who made the telling comment that all societies that come crashing down have the most wealth right at the moment before they nose-dive/explode.

Adversity and strife breed the best of what's in us. We are our best when things are at their worst. Peace and plenty fuck human beings up bad. We were meant to struggle and to suffer. It's the price of self awareness and the ability to choose good or evil.

Really, the WWI generation may be the worst ever, or at least the ones that did the most damage. The First Progressive Era and the "Progressive Amendments" kicked out key Constitutional checks on power which is what has allowed our Federal Government to become a completely corrupt leviathan and our politics to attract the worst among us (those who crave power the most are the ones who run).

Much to hate about every generation, and also a hell of a lot of people to admire and hang with.

Think about all the Boomer fucks, and then think that same generation were the ones in the rice paddies keeping the faith in Viet Nam, kicking the fuck out of a terrible and totally committed enemy who were fighting for their homes, and then who came back to the others of their generation treating their heroism as criminality...!?!?!? The worst and the best.

As I said, that's always how it is.

Amen Rev. Amen. Get knocked down, pick yourself up, learn and proceed with life experience.

The best part of our species rolled down the crack of some Spartan woman's ass and landed in the dirt way more than one generation ago.
I also am drawn to think of the martial cultures who impose hardship on their people as a way of life and a path to virtue, but they too declined and faded from the same ills that afflict the rest of mankind. Seems looking inward and to man is a dead end...
