Has anyone compared the two and what have you found? I have both in 5-25 but have never looked at the 3s. Looking for one to go on top of a hunting rifle in 308 16”. Trying to make a light package.

They are both great scopes overall but might be heavier than you're looking for, for a lightweight 30mm FFP hunting scope the Nightforce NX8 is tough to beat and of course the Tangent Thetas in 30mm are fantastic.

Also what is the difference between the 30 mm 34 mm tube scopes? Other than the size of the tubes. Is one better than the other?

I have not looked at both of them. Everyone I have heard have said that they have the same glass. The biggest difference is elevation travel and weight.

    And I'm not 100% positive on this but I don't think the 30mm has Tool-less re-zero.

You dismiss the kahles as being too heavy for a light weight build, how much does the tangent theta weigh?

27 vs 33oz, that difference may make a difference for some but not others. The general threshold discussed here is 30 oz or less YMMV. I sell both so it’s not like I’m biased on one brand over the other, we just provide information and let the individual decide.

I wasn’t aware tangent theta had 30 and 34mm tube options for the 3-15. I have read that the tangent theta is great in low light, how would it compare to a s&b polar or Zeiss victory ht?

The Tangent Theta TT315M 3-15×50 w. 30mm tube is an amazing scope. I have two, and ordered a third from CS Tactical for my new build I am planning. They are worth every penny.

Even with "only" 12 MIL of elevation (dual turn 6 MIL turrets), I have hit 1500 yds with my 6CM & 105 Hyb.

Perfect turrets, tracking, lighter weight @ 27oz, and the best glass out for clarity, color, CA, contrast, etc.

I do not have a S&B Polar or Zeiss Victory HT, but I have a bunch of other top tier scopes.
    S&B PMII 3-20×50, 3-20×50US, 5-20×50US, 5-25×56
    ZCO 4-20×50
Premier Heritage 5-25×56, Heritage Light Tactical 3-15×50
    March F 3-24×52

The Tanget Theta TT315M will give you the ability to hunt at any legal hunting time, in just about any condition. I have used mine at 1 minute into legal hunting hours (30 min before sunrise) on a totally moonless day with heavy cloud cover in dark timber. I could see better through my scope than with the naked eye by a big margin.

I would stay clear of the Nightforce NX8 2.5-20x50, it exhibits excessive edge to edge distortion that limits the usable FOV, it also has a very finicky eyebox and very shallow DOF with finicky parallax. I would recommend the Burris XTR III 3.3-18x50 long before I could recommend the NX8 as the XTR III has much better edge to edge clarity while sharing a very similar wide FOV (you can also see links to my reviews on the NX8 and XTR III in my signature below).

While I have not owned a TT315M I have owned it's older sister - Premier LT, both scopes share the exact same specs though I've heard TT made some improvements internally and of course you get the much better TT turrets, though the LT/TT315M are limited to only 12 mils of travel, but I'm guess with a 16" 308 you aren't looking to shoot much past the 12 mil limit. That is the only downside to the scope, outside of that you won't find better glass in a 3-15 at that weight - 27oz. Some shooters think the Gen 2 XR is not usable with the 3-15 but I did not find it to be a huge detriment but it is very thin at 3x which is assisted in lower light by illumination. An alternative to the 34mm TT315P is the Minox ZP5 3-15x50 which also shares similar lineage to the TT/Premier scopes and shares exact specs (all of them were designed by Optronika who is now German Sport Optics (GSO)).

You can read the review of Ultra Shorts (link is in my signature below) where we compared all the alpha class ultra shorts and included the ZP5 3-15 as well. I loved my Kahles K318i and until the ZCO ZC420 it was my favorite Ultra Short scope as it performed better optically (to my eyes) than the Schmidt US 3-20; however, its biggest detractor is the limited FOV which is outlined in the review.
